The Reform UK Party (latest nigel farage vehicle) is it to be laughed at or not

Which is exactly the response I expected.

Like I said, stale and stodgy and things need shaking up around here, because whilst you're all agreeing with each other and being inoffensive, they are rising in popularity.

At least Cloo seems to get it - the Left needs to push back and take control of the "immigrant scrounger" narrative. Take Back Control, even!

Perhaps we need another complex 3-word slogan to make the point: "Immigration Is Good?"
Nasty liberal, classist shit is not needed “around here”; perhaps you need a less than complex 2-word phrase?

“Immigration is good” is at least a positive message. “Most voters are stupid” is not. If you can’t see how the latter is not an attractive message, then imagine you’re “most voters” hearing it.

surely that's the general line that most of the (longer term urban) people have been taking on here, and being critical of the sneering at the 'thick racist plebs' approach that hasn't done labour / remain / democrats a lot of good the last few years...

I think the wider problem is that in general nobody in politics really wants to change anything: not the economy, not the hierarchy, not the honours system. We know we have to respond to the climate crisis but nobody wants to be the one to do it. So we get this tinkering around the edges within "acceptable" parameters. But that's not enough.

So now we have Reform who are saying loudly that we need to change things. And that resonates. At the risk of evoking the spectre of the past, Corbyn spoke in more radical terms as well and that's why he was pushed out of the game. I'd far rather see the kind of change he was advocating, but here we are with Farage and his rich backers.

Of course, if he ever did gain power we'd see radical change of a fascistic type and change for the far worse economically. But while the Tories are being totally corrupt and useless and Labour is being managed into impotence a promise of actual change will sound more appealing.

To answer the thread's question, I don't think Reform are to be laughed at as Kamala Harris laughed a lot at Trump's ridiculous nonsense and look where that got her.

They've risen in popularity while being the butt of liberal piss-taking and opprobrium the whole journey; more of that isn't exactly a shake-up.

Watching some old Porridge Christmas specials with the wife right now. She saw it for the first time, a couple of months ago and loved it so bought her the box set for Christmas. No idea what any if that has to do with Reform but neither has the.last few pages and we're pleasantly pissed . You'll noticed I'm actually making an effort, not calling her my missus or posting memes. Meet me.half way. Merry Christmas/ boxing day 😂🥰

Once again you are breaking the terms of mutual ignore here.

I have reported this post as you always do.

If no action is taken, or an apology received, I will assume that mutual ignore no longer applies between us, feel free to engage your posts, and inform our new friends all about you.
Just re reading this thread last few days, missed this, isn't this out of order?
Reporting it, a tout then?

Needing an 'apology or action taken.'. a bit snowflakey

'Inform our new friends about you'
A bit bullying and again a tout?

I don't keep a close eye on beef between posters, never engaged with you I don't think before ,
I'm not part of any gang and only call out people on shit politics, however long they've been here.

Seem to remember some posters putting up shit about you, ex OB or similar, had no reason to believe it, but if you're playing the game of threatening to bring up historical shit, let your new friends know the whole lot of whats been said in the past.

I got a text about this post, and advice to quote it for future reference 🤷‍♂️

Far be it for me to try and dictate anything but thought this thread was getting a bit overridden with off topic shit posting (think both sides could agree with that?) and would be nice if we could transfer to a grumpy drunk uncle at Christmas thread and personal attacks and leave this to people shitting on the Fartage company. Idea? If not, carry on, I'm not going to suggest you go to re-education camps. Just a friendly idea.

Exchange "American Electorate" for "Reform voters" and you're not too far away. I know it's unpalatable for the right-on types on here, but sometimes a basic truth is just staring you in the face. What to do about it? Stop giving the racist airtime, expose the fallacies in his position, don't let him run rings around you with his sophistry and maybe ask the most important question of all: does he have a penis that looks like Toad from "Mario Kart?"
Leaving aside for a moment the pertinent question asked by Puddy_Tat and JimW and just running with the above - what political actions are you proposing for this strategy?

If the claims made by the refUKer live membership counter are valid, they're now just 700 short of the figure the vermin released as their leadership electorate. Of course, if the vermin have lost members since Badenoch's election, it may already be the case that Farage's company has a bigger membership that the party of HMLO.

Wonder if Dec 26 might actually be a bit early for this to become a media talking point?

the question in my head this mornin is can they really dethrone europes oldest and most successful party of capital & hierarchy this quickly or is the merger more likely? If we go into next GE with reform and tory still with not even an electoral pact, stand aside agreement or whatever, its a second term for starmer.

Daft thing is, the current government is doing more to get people deported than the previous shower, but we have a RW press that do not see this as a way of promoting their views/selling papers.

Odd how since the change of government, the likes of QT now choose the panels based on vote share rather than number of MPs as previously. Got to keep promoting the Tufton Street narrative, with any excuse they can.

I suppose a great deal will depend upon whether or not Farage's company regard a second LP administration as helpful to their build? If they decide to fight the vermin again, they would certainly make Starmer II more of a reality, but if they go into an electoral pact, Starmer's party might be toast, but they'd be the new LD part of a coalition; not good form there.
