The New Tories - Ruthlessly Incompetent. Post Examples of Tory Stupidity Here

Certainly the PM has to be an MP. Does the leader of the opposition have to be one too? Only Farage has fallen at that particularly hurdle a mere seven times.

i think the leader of the opposition has to be a sitting MP - there has been occasional speculation about either sadiq khan or andy burnham standing for the labour party leadership, but the conclusion has tended to be they would have to become an MP (again) before they could.

there may be an ancient bit of constitutional law that says they can be a member of the house of lords (at one point, it was not uncommon for the prime minister to be a lord rather than an MP, although it's not been the case since 1902 apart from the brief period when alec douglas-home was in the process of resigning his peerage and getting elected to the commons.)

although suppose it's possible for a party to have a leader that's not an MP - the current and last leader of the SNP (for example) has been an MSP not a westminster MP, they have a separate leader of the party within the house of commons.

the idea of farrago joining the conservative party, getting selected as a candidate and getting elected would have seemed far fetched a year or two ago, but the party's direction of travel could make it possible. there are some seats where a sack of shite with the right colour rosette on would get elected, and farage probably appeals to the core tory voters in middle earth england.

This from the Guardian:

The scum just can't play be the rules. Their strategy has nothing to do with doing the best for any section of the wider population, just cheating their way to making money for the top of the 1% and their personal mates.

The Conservative MP Peter Bone repeatedly hit and verbally abused a member of his staff, often asked him for massages and on one occasion put his bare genitals in the other man’s face, according to a report by a Commons regulator.

Bone, one of the most prominent members of the campaign for Britain to leave the EU, was found by the independent expert panel to have bullied and harassed his staff member over a three-month period in late 2012.

No puns on the name please
