This is pretty fucking shit to be honest, surely the council must have enough lifts to make it worthwhile having someone on call either directly or through a contractor to come and fix the fucking thing at fairly short notice? Even if they do and hit the dreaded 'no parts in stock' syndrome surely they can stick her in a Travelodge for a couple of days and send someone to her flat with a key to get some clothes.
You'd think. In my experience 99.9 per cent of council/ex-council transferred to ALMO/housing association staff are absolutely fucking clueless fuckwit imbeciles who don't give a shit, even actually hold social housing tenants in total and utter contempt.
My flat is a second storey walk-up, ie no lift, and while I'm disabled, I don't have mobility problems that mean I can't climb stairs (not yet, although a few months ago I was diagnosed with arthritis in one of my knees).
A few years ago, they decided to change the security fob to the main security door in my block, in fact they cancelled/reprogrammed and changed all the security fobs for all the blocks on my estate of 254 flats. Without any notice, so far as I'm aware; I certainly didn't get any notice.
iirc, I think I returned home - luckily! - at around 4-4.30pm on a Friday afternoon. Which meant that when I swiped my fob and it didn't work, and I tried again, and it didn't work, and I tried again, and it didn't work, and I tried again, and it didn't work, etc, I was still able to phone them and complain that I wasn't able to get into my block.
iirc, the person who answered let me know that they had decided to cancel all the fobs across the estate and issue new ones! They suggested that I go to their office - which was only about 15-20 minutes walk away, because I happen to live relatively close to their HQ - but I pointed out I'd just got a taxi home from the supermarket with several bags of groceries and couldn't carry them all the way there, and also I might not be able to make it to their office before it closed on a Friday afternoon.
Their initial attitude was if you can't come to our office now, ie almost closing time on a Friday, you'll have to wait until Monday! I pointed out that I wasn't able to walk to their office with my bags of shopping. The reason why I'd got a taxi home was due to a disability affecting my wrist (previously broken badly, medical negligence, four operations to fix it, including bone graft from my hip, tendon grafts from my arm), so No, I couldn't walk to their office with all my shopping before it closed on a Friday afternoon, and what did they expect me to do over the weekend, if they didn't get someone to bring a fob to me to enable me to get into my block, sleep on a f'ing park bench in the park opposite my flat for the weekend?!?!?
Eventually, begrudgingly, they said that they were going to send someone to give me a fob to get into my block so I could get into my own home.
I was thankful to the person who'd offered/been ordered to deliver a security fob to me as their last task of the day before they clocked off for the weekend...
...but what absolute fucking jokers, thinking it was acceptable to lock people out of their buildings on a Friday afternoon and then suggest they either come and collect a fob (to people perhaps with no transport/disabilities), or wait until Monday... and what, sleep on a f'ing park bench?!? What would've happened if I had returned home after 5pm when their office was shut for the weekend? Fuckwits.
