The Ashes 2019

What a ridiculous statement. If you play and miss, 34 times, you are showing you don't have much idea of the line and, without the bucketful of luck he had yesterday (including the Aussies not reviewing when he was out LBW in the 20s), he's going to connect pretty soon with one of those 34 chances.

It was the scratchiest century I've seen in a long time. But hooray for numbers eh? Let's not think about how he got them.
What a pompous load of twaddle .Given that numbers (of runs scored and wickets taken) win matches I'll stick with the numbers, thanks.

Show me a ton that didnt have some swings and misses and that didnt have a few lucky escapes.

*puts kettle on*

That's it for tonight then.

Couple of wickets first thing would be nice. Even one just to unsettle them.

Not sure about Moeen. His all round game is in a bit of a state right now. Terrible leave for his 0. Batting really poorly for some time now. Even with the ball - yes, got a wicket but went at 5 an over and didn’t look that threatening.

As for YJB? His mojo has deserted him at the wrong time too.

Game is in the balance right now. Can’t see how England are gonna get Smith out. Won’t be comfortable chasing anything over 150/160...

One man can win a test match on his own.

And one team can lose a test match by playing 10 men if the missing one is the best bowler.

There's rain around Birmingham for the next two days.

Just saw Moeen's dismissal on the highlights. Shocking. You wouldn't expect that from a number 11.

He's shot, gone. I was surprised they picked him. I think Leach has to get a chance to chuck a few pies. Back him. Might give him confidence.

YJB is gone too. But they won't drop him.

Honestly can't remember the last time Moeen scored runs in any format. He was a magnificent batsman for a while there, but it's not doing him any favours to pretend he's still got it. It's certainly not doing the side any favours.

England have to find a way of getting Smith and winning this test match with one fast bowler down and their spinner not effective.

Whatever happens here there will be replacements and there are a number to come in: Jofra, Stone, Gregory, Leach, Rashid. England will need them....

The flipside is we've got to a point where we're still just about ahead despite missing our best bowler and being reduced to a four-man attack. I'm sure this isn't lost on the Australians, nor is the fact that they won the toss and still finished the first innings with a deficit of 90. Even if neither Archer nor Anderson is fit for Lord's, we'll still have an extra bowler and they'll still have a side with maybe two players in Lyon and Smith who you'd pick over their English opposite numbers. They don't even have a competent wicketkeeper.
