The Ashes 2019

It looked at odd decision at the toss, then again so did their choice of bowling attack*.

I like Siddle, I really do. He always gives it his all even when its all going to shit. Plus he's the natural successor to Brett Lee's crown of 'aussie cricketer you'd most like to have a pint with'. The question is though who would England prefer to face: Siddle or Hazlewood or Starc?

* Smith is still there mind and as along as he is a big score is on.

Hmmm. Anderson only bowling 4 overs on the 1st morning of a test match with it doing a bit. Stokes has bowled a load of dross again as well. Still very decent 1st session for England.

He sounded quite optimistic about it on the Tailenders podcast so I think even he was comfortable with how it was and was Ashes ready.

Wicket has woken things up a bit.

Get Smith out and there's blood in the water, sub 170 stuff. The only problem with this plan is getting Smith out.

I am surprised to learn that Tim Paine has an average of 35. I was under the impression he was shit and only getting a game because they needed a captain.

Quite enjoying being back to the days of absolutely shocking LBW decisions. It's like both teams have decided to show solidarity with the umpires by being just as useless at judging whether they're out or not as the umpires.

Interesting aside regarding Steve Smith. He seems to have managed to retain his sponsorship deal with New Balance. Remember Ben Stokes sponsorship deal with the same company was cancelled after that incident with much moralising.

So in the eyes of New Balance being an outright proven cheat when you are captaining your country (no less) is absolutely fine. Being involved in an incident which you were later found to be innocent in court is a terrible thing.

Its good to have principles.

Boycott is telling us it’s all bygones and we should forgive Smith now.

Er, no, Geoffrey. We’ll decide for ourselves when it’s ok to forgive someone for hitting his wife cheating at cricket.
