The Ashes 2019

Archer not playing. Makes sense to me. They may leave starc out for similar reasons. A fast bowl off at lord maybe - not tmw.

Potential bowl-off between Broad and Woakes, then?

This could potentially be Stuart Broad's last test. This puts off a difficult decision, perhaps.

Won't be his last test. Maybe last series.
I suspect both he and Anderson may call it a day at the end of this series. But in the case of Broad, his continued selection wasn't a given anyway. Assuming Broad and Woakes play tomorrow and Archer is in for the second test, one of the two has to give way. Then Wood comes into the reckoning later in the month.

I would love to see Broad have a magic spell and end the summer gloriously. But his form in the last couple of years has fallen away. Unlike Anderson, I don't think he has the skills to survive losing any pace (his magic spells have always involved him hitting top gear). And he had a very ordinary time of it with Notts while the World Cup was on - he's not bringing any form into this series.

Anyway Oz win the toss and bat.

Seems a bit of an odd decision, unless the sun was shining and the pitch flat I'd have stuck England in given their bowling attack and the knowledge that England can't bat. Having England 50 - 4 at lunch (as is standard) could have set the tone early.

There was me thinking Woakes was unlucky not to get the new ball over Broad.

Going back a bit. Warner is a prize berk for not reviewing. Half the reason for batting outside the crease is to remove the lbw. Broad bowling wide around the wicket, the chances of impact in line and hitting the stumps is almost non-existent.

Warner's not a man cursed with anything you'd call an intellect tbf.
