T20 Cricket World Cup

As someone has pointed out on cricinfo, this kind of game might even appeal to Americans. Baseball is quite a slow game really, with lots of passages of play when nobody scores, and only the very occasional big hit. Bit like this t20 WC.

Rohit's a terrible fielder, out of shape. But places himself at mid off and concedes so many runs as he drops all over the ball. Put Jadeja there.

India showing England-like inflexibility of tactics here. They've identified that holding Bumrah back can be effective as others are also good with the new ball, but defending 119 on a dodgy pitch, you surely open up with your best bowler.

They may still win, but it will be despite their tactics not because of them.

Indeed. They have to bowl them out to win this.

Good move keeping Bumrah on til last - penultimate over a wicket and three runs
Giving him the 19th is smart. Lots of teams do this now - best bowler tries to leave as many as possible for the last over bowler to defend.

Still think he should have bowled the first over as well, though. Ah well. Pakistan made a right mess of that.

Cant believe Pakistan threw that away. This is a weird world cup.
I think with the high-scoring conditions of most franchise cricket, batters have lost the skill of dinking singles. The runs dried up completely for a few overs as they weren't even hitting the ball. That chase needed someone like Kane Williamson to marshall it. Babar was a key wicket.

Meanwhile, Scotland have just thumped Oman. England are in big, big trouble. They need 1. Aus to beat Scotland, preferably by a lot, and 2. to beat Oman and Namibia by a lot. Close wins no good.

It's not all over yet for Pakistan, but it will be if the USA beat Ireland, who have been woeful so far.

So my money is on England and Pakistan both being knocked out.

And for the rest of the tourno ;) I foresee an Aus-India final, repeating the Test WC and ODI WC finals, and a repeat of the result. Aus crowned triple-world champions. :(

Just watched that last over from Maharaj. It was absolute filth. Bangladesh really should have won that but the NY pitch has done funny things to the batters such that they can't put away full tosses and long hops.

Another last over thriller in New York. Maybe all t20 wickets should be like this..l

I think it's been the best thing of the tournament, tbh

I presume at least one of you is joking? 6 innings there so far have produced 4 scores under 100, 2 with 103 and 106-6, and one other game of 119 and 113 and another of 137 and 125. Canada are currently 64-5.

The pitches have been described not very variably as between 'dangerous' and 'shit'.

They are now on their 4th drop-in pitch. Not good enough for club cricket, let alone a World Cup.

Edit. Canada now 73-6. One of their batters was just out for 52. Nobody else has scored above 4.

Uneven bounce is clearly not cool. It makes batting a lottery and it can be dangerous. However, I have no problem with extravagant sideways movement.

There's a happy medium to be found here somewhere between the NY pitches and the roads that served up slog-fests in the IPL.

USA v India today. The pitch is still challenging, no doubt, but it doesn't look unfair now. Batters just trying to see Bumrah out by the looks of it. Pretty sensible. It's what county teams used to do against Garner.

USA have done ok here. It won't be enough, but they've played it reasonably smart. Could easily have fallen in a heap after losing two in the first over.

They've been ok. Nothing special but they've had a couple of batters that have gone well.

India have been excellent and, barring some real weirdness, will win comfortably.

Yeah, it's a nice bouncy track, but no horrors in it. Looks like a good wicket tbh. Finally. They got it right for the last match.
