Self-Isolation Support Thread

So it looks like those with even mild cold/flu symptoms may be requested to self-isolate in the near future. Not official advice currently but if Covid19 continues to spread and measures more similar to Italy's are adopted, def seems likely. A friend of mine in South Korea has basically been at home for weeks, working and studying from home and quite isolated as a result... it's not easy.

Had a crap sore throat all of last week and felt pretty dreadful but thought nothing of it and was at a political thing most of the weekend. Sore throat gone but still feeling dizzy and pretty exhausted and coldy. Doing a course at uni currently but Ive decided to stay home based on all this, despite this being relatively minor.

Thought it would be good to have a support thread for those of us who inevitably end up stuck at home in various stages of illness or otherwise. This thread can be as serious or as fun as people want, tbh... the aim is just to provide support/positivity. Obviously having loads of dried food and cans and bog roll is the easy bit... it's managing life stuff (work, money, friendships, relationships, family, exercise, social interaction etc etc) and staying positive when stuck at home for weeks which could be harder.

I’ve had sniffles and a mild cough for over a month now, but I’ve been advised to keep going to work.
I wouldn’t mind a spot of isolation, but lack of exercise would be a concern.

Good shout. The prison burpee workout is designed to be done in a small yard.

Do 20 burpees, walk across the yard, do 19 burpees, walk across the yard, do 18 burpees, etc etc.

Brilliant/horrendous.

I understand that if we self isolate for 14 days as an employee we get paid as normal.
I am in the high risk category and it sounds like I may be "advised" to self isolate for 3 months as opposed to being told to.
Goodness knows what would happen to my pay if I did this
At a time when we are low in numbers anyway, it's a lot of extra strain to put on colleagues :( but as we are short on PPE and other care not being taken
and no information coming out (they are having a meeting tomorrow), Im thinking stuff it, Im off

Friend of mine posted this on Facebook. She lives in Sidcup. Just wondering if anyone can suggest anything.

"We are self isolating as I have one of the big underlying health issues.
No online food deliveries available anywhere.
Having a celiac in the house makes it scary.
Know that manufacturers of baby formula will send directly as shelves have been stripped but what about gluten free products?
Any advice of who to call?
Ghostbusters?
Saw a disgusting video of the biggest stockpiling I have ever seen but what about those of us with young children and having just started a new job and not got paid yet?
Iceland are doing the hour for vulnerable and elderly tomorrow morning .... but they dont have gluten free xx"

My youngest daughet has 3 of the...things. Weight, asthma, hospital, steroids, smoking. My best friend has at least 3.

I'm organising a virtual drink with some friends on Skype at the weekend. (We don't live very close these days and are having to cancel our proper meet up plans so...)

I get to leave the house tomorrow for the first time since Friday lunchtime. Have to pick my dog up from the vets as she’s having dental surgery but I’ll stay in the car. Might take the other dog to the beach though, I need air and light and sun.

My mum has the same cough she's had since December when we were all ill, she wants to go for walks and stuff and I don't know if that's allowed :(

You're in the top tier of risk. I'd be off.

Having self isolated for only two weeks up to yet, I can say without doubt it is difficult.
I even watched Bargain Hunt one day.
The only time I’m not isolated is during visits to hospitals that are wick with poorly folks.
Init. I watched some telly last week for the first time in a couple of decades as I discovered the ariel worked.

Daytime TV adds are something else. It's all over 50 life insurance and cruises.

ME Association Guidance: Coronavirus and ME/CFS by Dr Charles Shepherd | 16 March 2020

The situation has been deteriorating quite rapidly over the past week here in the UK. The number of confirmed cases (as at 15th March) now stands at 1372 with 35 deaths.

The WHO has also declared that Europe is now the epicentre of a very serious coronavirus pandemic (= an epidemic that involves several countries).

Disease modelling is suggesting that the numbers here in the UK will steadily grow from now on, probably for the next 6 to 8 weeks, before a plateau is reached, a degree of herd immunity starts to kick in (in theory), and the numbers will then (hopefully) start to steadily decline during the summer months.

That’s the official government prediction at present, but not all the experts agree. If correct, it means that we are almost certainly going to be in a state of emergency, along with serious disruption to every aspect of normal life, for at least two months, possibly longer.

With the UK government now moving on from attempted containment of the virus to delaying the spread, we have also reached a new stage when it comes to how people with ME/CFS should be reducing the chances of catching this infection.

The key preventative measures remain exactly the same:

– avoiding infections on surfaces by keeping them clean, wherever possible,
– thoroughly washing hands and wrists after touching surfaces away from home,
– not touching your face,
– keeping well away from anyone who has any signs of an infection,
– keeping a safe distance from everyone else – even people you know!

All these measures are set out in detail below, and we will continue to update this guidance at least on a weekly basis.

Dr Charles Shepherd, Hon. Medical Adviser, ME Association.
Update and Overview
I have now reached the conclusion that people with pre-existing health conditions that make them more vulnerable to lung complications (which may or may not be the case with ME/CFS – at this stage we just don’t know), or have a condition like ME/CFS where an infection such as this will almost certainly cause a relapse, or significant exacerbation of symptoms, need to be doing far more to protect themselves, and to socially distance themselves from other people, than official NHS guidance indicates. I also suffer with this treelover not sure this is helpful but I have been self isolating for the last three weeks and it’s grim. I live alone and have lots of physical and mental difficulties.

I shall throw in the towel in 2 nights time. My bosses can't be arsed to contact me...they know I'm high risk. They can't be bothered to reply to emails. Email from HR has totally missed the point.
thank you. Goodnight.

How is everyone doing?

We’re finding it hard today. Our very good friends, who we’ve been in touch with constantly over the last few weeks while they’ve been here, have flown home. Normally we would have spent a week at the beach with them. We are feeling much more depressed than we expected, and much more isolated.

Last night looking at the fucking idiots who had chosen to drive around, walk around the town chatting in groups with their friends, makes me think that this lock down is going to have to be extended.
