Saudi Arabia chosen to head human rights panel whilst sentencing citizen to crucifixion

( I'm sure I posted this elsewhere ). A very interesting watch. All about how MBS gained power as opposed to anyone one of his numerous brothers who were all in line before him. How he kidnapped and held to ramsom many of Saudis top diplomats, got the PM of Lebanon to resign, the Khashoggi murder, proving that anything can be bought by paying 450 million US for the Salvator Mundi, not to mention any sportsmen.
He is a real prince among men and it's well worth a watch.

Thank goodness for this, though I don't expect this decision will change anything
Last week was an important milestone.

"Mohammed bin Salman’s regime was finally judged on its actions, not its PR campaign when member states voted to deny Saudi Arabia’s bid to join the UN Human Rights Council.

This vote matters and here’s why:

  • For far too long, the Saudi regime has acted as if it can commit severe human rights abuses, knowing that its international allies would look the other way.
  • The Kingdom’s execution crisis continues to grow, with autorities executing their highest number of people in one year, at least 219.
  • These executions were for crimes that included drug offences and simply standing up for human rights.
  • The Saudi Government spent huge sums of money promoting a false vision of the Kingdom, selling stories of progress on human rights while cracking down on anyone who disagrees with their rule.
  • Our clients, child defendants Abdullah al-Howaiti, Youssef al-Manasif and Abdullah al-Derazi are still all at risk of execution. Their sentences must be overturned.
If Saudi authorities truly want to promote human rights, they can start by honouring the promises they have repeatedly made to the UN, to end the death penalty for all people arrested for childhood ‘crimes’.

This vote is a win for us and the wider community of activists globally who took a stand against Saudi's bid. We're so grateful for all you've done to help us achieve this. However, with Saudi authorities' execution count rising weekly, it's clear we need to ramp up our efforts to achieve our goal of ending the death penalty and continue to hold powerful governments to account."
