Paralympics Chit Chat

Obviously don't have much with sympathy with Pistorious in terms of his lack of grace. However I just heard a suggestion on 5live that he's, sort of, a victim of his push to be accepted in the able bodied olympics. The idea was that he's limited the size of his blades to ensure IOC (or perhaps IAAF) approval i.e. kept them smaller than he could have for paralympic regulations. No idea if it's true of course and the bottom line is he was beaten for not running as fast he ran earlier.

In the immediate post race interview, the winning runner said (through an interpreter) that his blades had been approved by the governing body and that he had been running on them for months. Scotching the idea that he had just extended them for that race or meeting.

I think Pistorious was shocked about being beaten and reacted in less than good grace. He may have a point, but the point should have been made at a different time than when he had just lost a race.

150,000 was the number provided, but 1,700 was the number used.

Doesn't say that here. If they've run out of 1,700, how can 150,000 have been provided?

Games organisers underestimated initial demand for a vital commodity – condoms – at the athletes’ village. Initial supplies of 1,700 have run out and they were restocked on Saturday in time for weekend activities.

When asked if this meant things were going well in the village, Locog head of Paralympic Integration Chris Holmes muttered “no comment”.

Oh, the 150,000 it seems were for both Olympians and Paralympians

Olympic organisers clearly take a pragmatic approach. After officials at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona issued free condoms for athletes, other host nations have followed suit. LOCOG, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, is providing 150,000 condoms for this year's athletes.

Pistorius took less strides than Oliveira although Pistorius seemed to think it was the other way about, Pistorius has damaged his case for running against able bodied runners in a lot of peoples eyes and has come out of this as a bad loser as he was beaten by the better runner on the day.

Ellie Simmons what a star and what a heroic win, Simmons has produced in the paralympics just like Ennis in the Olympics with the home nations media focusing big time on them.

I get to see her tomorrow morning. Really wish I'd gone for an evening session as there's no finals in the morning sessions

Another great swim from her

Oh I dunno, he was grumpy because he lost, I don't think reputations have been badly damaged.

The question is, will that other guy be running in Pistorious's other events !! :)

Ellie Simmons swim was amazing. Did someone give her an outboard motor on the last leg? So quick!

I liked yesterday's race better against Victoria Arlen. Much more tense.

Was it yesterday? I've been watching so much I've lost track of when I watched what

Did anyone see George Osbourne getting booed at the medal ceremony he was doing? Not sure if I was watching it live or not! Lol
