Paralympics Chit Chat

The stupid commentators on C4 seemed to be obsessed with whether or not the gold medal wheelchair race guy was going to shed a tear. They reckoned he would at the medal ceremony but he didn't. HA. Then they went on about it when he came into the studio asking stupid questions about whether he was about to cry etc.

He has my respect for remaining composed in the face of Olympic hysteria. He should get a medal for this too.

Haven't been watching this at all but i was in the Chinese waiting for a takeaway and they said some guy who was in the same class at school as Jedward won a gold.At least some talent came out of that school.

Are the medal tables in way reflective of differing national attitudes to disability? Obviously other factors would figure like wealth of country and maybe even population size. But are you really better off being disabled in say Australia than the US or Germany or it the reverse with money targeted at gaining prestige at expense of average disabled receiving everyday kit?
Welcome any insight, my preconception is to compare position on Olympic with Paralympic tables and judge according

It may also correlate with the number of wars a country sends its young men off to.

I know they have been banging on about Jimmy Carr s 'joke' being true but that leaves the US medal position and the fact they did better in Beijing needing more of an explanation

Given that the keepers are sighted, the goals seem quite small. I'd be disappointed to be beaten often in that size goal even if the guy shooting could see where it was.

The US seems to have little interest in the paraolympics, I was amazed that this is the first games ever to be televised in the US and its only available on-line. Amazing that not one of the US broadcasters want the rights.

I was enthralled with the Paralympics last night. I'm surprised that I'm enjoying it as much (if not more) than the Olympics. There have been so many moving and inspirational moments.

Last night, I particularly enjoyed the pure pride and glee that Paul Blake expressed wen he won a silver medal. Also, I was really moved by Matt Walker's bronze medal celebration, and his post-race interview had me welling up. Awesome athletes.

We were in the stadium and you would have thought that Blake had won a gold on his lap on honour. He got a standing ovation. :)

On a more negative note, Pistorious and/or South African officials still being a cock:

Bottom line seems to me to be his desire to compete in the Olympics which has restricted the size of his own blades - a self restriction. All the stuff about competitors switching blades looks to be hogwash. Perhaps used to being the star and getting his own way for too long (demanding meetings with the governing body etc.)?
