Paralympics - Who's Going?

I guess you'll be leaving the park when we get there - our session starts at four.

What's the javelin?

I got confirmation from Southeastern today that there IS a train at 00:53 on Sunday night. I guess I'm all set for the Closing Ceremony then.....I think.

Thanks for tips all. Got back home at 7.00pm on the dot.

Got there for our session about 40 minutes late unfortunately, due to waiting for shuttle and scooter. Actually, we didn't wait for shuttle from Stratford station, but going through security took about 15 minutes. Had bomb dog come on vehicle and have a sniff about. Vehicle was swabbed and checked. Then physical check inside checking everything and the normal mirror beneath the vehicle. Then there was a queue for the wheelchairs/mobility scooters and signing for them. Just as he was being given instructions on how to use them, I got a phone call so missed instructions on how to use it so himself was a bit iffy with it until I figured out what was what. Then typically he wanted to go to the loo.

Anyway, got in just in time for Ellie Simmons.

Went to The Orbit after that. I took him to the lift and said I was walking down and gave him strict instructions to stay by the lift until I got down. Naturally, he forgot and wandered off, but eventually found him.

He wasn't hungry so we shared a fish and chips (haddock, no cod :(, £8.50). Wandered around the stadium. Tried to get into one of the shops to buy a cap as sun was getting to me and I had thumping headache but massive queues. Queuing up for water was a nightmare as no shade. All tables/benches in use everywhere.

My sister turned up just after 4.00, so wandered around with her and her husband for an hour, then decided to leave, except we couldn't remember where we got mobility scooter from. Asked a Gamesmaker and she directed us in completely the wrong direction and we ended up back where we started. Got mobility scooter returned and shuttle back to Stratford. He then decided he wanted to go to the loo again. Got on tube at 6.00pm. Got off at London Bridge and heard announcement that Victoria Line was down. I felt quite smug as he wondered why we weren't going to Green Park. Got bus from Borough and it was one long bus journey due to FOUR police cars parked outside the Beehive dealing with something and holding the traffic up.

I also dropped my lighter and bent down to pick it up and whacked my head on scooter. I already had a headache before I did that. :D

Anyway, ready for round two tomorrow, after I've had a nice long rest. Too knackered to cook. He's in bed. We may have to starve. :hmm:

yes but did you enjoy it? :D

Oh right, yes! :D

Too hot today, but it's going to be cold tomorrow night. Maybe Friday will be better weatherwise :D

Still haven't decided how we're going to get there tomorrow. Walk from Northern Line to Jubilee Line at London Bridge is a bit of a trek for himself, so wondering about the Javelin, except the mobility shuttles don't pick up from Stratford International. Woman told me how it works but my head was thumping and I didn't take it in

I know she said something about going somewhere but not Stratford International and one stop was mentioned and that's where they'll pick up from :hmm:

Went to the Athletics - all finals in the evening and lots of records. Brilliant day/evening, topped off by David Weir winning the 1500m.

So jealous. Even on telly the atmosphere looked amazing. Paul Blake winning the silver medal was great, the crowd were so noisy. David Weir is a class above isn't he, great race, but not as tense as when he'd won his previous gold. And the relay girls...so close to winning until the fumble at the end.

Yes, the relay looked in the bag until the last changeover.

Oh and everyone booed Teresa May, which was excellent. :D

Looking forward to tonight. I work by St Pancras so it's the short trip on the Javelin straight to the park

Hopefully security won't take my tent pegs off me, bought them today as I'm off camping tomorrow at 7am and won't have much of a chance to get any then.

Tent pegs :D

Do you know how far the walk is from the Victoria Line to Javelin? I'm trying to decide whether to get Javelin today or whether to stick with Jubilee Line at London Bridge

I checked my tent last night and found 0 pegs so it's a very necessary purchase!

It's not too far, there are two routes though: The Euston road exit from the viccy line which has some steps up to ground level after the escalator and a short walk down the side of the station to the Javelin end, and the Pentonville Road exit which is a very long Tunnel and I think has some lifts. Either way it seems a longer walk than London Bridge train concourse to Jubilee Line.

hm, think I'll stick with the Jubilee Line then. At least I know that route and know where to pick up the shuttle bus.

We're at Gate D for athletics tonight which is right round the back of the stadium so probably going to get caught up in all the crowds getting out from the other blocks before us :D

I'm off to have a bath and rub a load of Deep Heat into my calves and then have to go out and pick up some food for tonight when we get back and will drop off at M&S on the way to get some sandwiches, although I noticed when we exited London Bridge Station last night that there's a Pret nearby, but I can't remember whether that station on Borough High Street was an exit only station

I've realised that although we get to see Pistorius and Peacock, they're in different races. Oh well. Two bits of excitement rather than one :D (even if they're not the finals)

Does mean Peacock competes against Oliveira though.

Do we not get Pistorius and Oliveria twice this evening? So three bits of excitement :D

Men's 100m - T44 Round 1
Men's 4x100m Relay - T42/T46 Final

I was going to have a good investigate of all the events this afternoon, but my boss wants me to do some work before i go on holiday

I only just investigated our seats and they don't look amazing (block 224 row 62), they were pretty cheap though.

We were in the same crowd and loved it. Felt sorry for the poor ignored discus throwers and shotputters though. We're trying to get more tickets now. :-D

Well yes, but not Peacock and Pistorius in the same race!

I've got

Oh, and I'm block 155, row 25

It's a row people don't seem to know about (when I was investigating where it is), but I think I know where it is. It's behind row 24 (which is the first tier of seats), but I think maybe it's the landing or something

Block 62 is fairly near the back. I think the rows go up to 75

Bottom tier is Rows 1-24, then top goes from 30 something.

You lucky things. Enjoy.

I've got a plan to go down to London next summer when the park opens for the public to have a swim in the pool! I love swimming and got to have a dip there. I've only been in one 50m pool (Munich), and was gutted that when I went to Manchester Aquatics Centre the pool had been halved (though it does get fully opened at certain times) :D

Anyone going to the swimming then?

Well I'm just back, cold and aching.

Was a good night.

Disqualifications in the relay was fun. Some people are going to get home tonight and be a bit upset (a lot left after relay assuming they knew result) :D

I went to the swimming yesterday morning

Oh, I've just remembered. Going through security, I collected b/f's stuff from the tray. As I was picking up his jacket and loose change, I had to stop my jaw from dropping as I realised he'd also dumped his dope in the tray :facepalm::oops::D

I nabbed it as fast and got away from there sharpish

Can anyone who's been advise on how long security takes at the olympic stadium? the website advises us to get there 2.5 hours before  not keen on getting up that early...
