Liverpool bomb incident 14/11/21

I’m not sure even the Mirror would get that wrong. TBF.
Someone might've referred to the unit by its old name to a journalist.

Eg journalist calls, old timer in Liverpool police answers the phone and says you need to call number 0161 XXX XXXX and speak to the old name of NW counter-terrorism unit instead of new name of Counter Terrorism Policing North West.

Not necessarily a journalistic error.

Then you've either never used back cabs, or are fortunately young enough to have only used them in the last 10-15 years or so because they haven't all taken cards for much longer.

Passengers are never locked into black cabs.
I don't think I look at all dodgy, but I've often been locked in the back of a black cab. They usually put the childlock on in Manchester.

coz sucide bombing a materniity hospital is nuts.
There was an attack on a maternity place in Afghanistan not that long ago. Horrible shit.

The idea is to make people angry, maximise fury and stoke division. Make people pick a side. Could also have selected a hospital as they’ve been bombed in Syria and similar places, see how you like it. Then it may also not have been the intended target, seems it was a premature detonation. Maybe if he’d asked for the cathedral or remembrance parade it would have aroused suspicion so picked a plausible destination nearby.

anyway, once they’ve swept up the bits and put them in a shoebox I hope they give the cunt a Norman Munce headstone.

Bomber bloke has been named as Emad Al Swealmeen

That first line on the Telegraph article says that [named dead terrorist] had 'converted to Christianity' ,,,, but how the fuck did the Telegraph 'know' that????

If true though, that particular thing would (?) or could (?) put a completely different perspective on matters. Possibly!

Far too much still unknownI IMO.

(ETA : well timed post, ddraig ! )

The Mail are making much of him being a Syrian Refugee who was taken in by a family and he converted at that time. No idea how much of that Is true given they appear to be quoting verbatim anyone’s dog presently.

Actually Christian volunteers rather than a family. But fuck knows. Apparently had MH issues.

The guy who stabbed some people in a park at the beginning of lockdown (I can't remember which town it was) was also a refugee Christian convert with MH difficulties.

They're certainly not in London. Most of us get out of the cab and pay the driver through the front passenger window. A cab driver once told me that he knows the Londoners when they do that. Only people unused to using black cabs try to squeeze their money through the hole in the screen.

Only occasionally get black cabs when in London. But that is what the hole is for no? otherwise you’ve got to get out on the roadside. Or presume the passenger window is open.

So looks like he wanted to bomb a maternity ward, but had to get a taxi?

I think it's unclear where he wanted to bomb, but getting a taxi there isn't so weird. A mate driving him would then definitely get caught, and if they're the crap terrorists they seem to be they probably can't afford to lose a car by parking it up and leaving it.

Taxis seem to be a common way of getting about in Liverpool, something I’ve noticed when I’ve worked there, seemed to be more about than in other cities I’ve lived in except perhaps London.

Yes, the hole is for tourists to push their money through. Why would you have to get out into the road? There are doors on both sides. If you get out on the driver’s side he’’ll wind down his window!

Total speculation, but if he’s come from Syria and has been converted to Christianity he might be expected to be somewhat outraged that the church is getting involved with honouring the military forces which he has just seen destroy his country.

That would be a feasible motive, if the hospital was just to be the drop off point for him to walk to the remembrance service.

Both of these claims are very heavily disputed. They're what were reported in the immediate aftermath of the Reading attacks, much like these speculative claims now, but his supposed conversion was highly unlikely given that no evidence of such conversion was shown, he was shouting Allahu Akhbar at the time of the attacks, and had viewed shedloads of Isis material on his computer over years. The mental illness was also disputed by Belmarsh psychiatrists at his trial (though supported by a subsequent news report).
