Libya - civil unrest & now NATO involvement

Has anyone found any evidences about the "air strikes" so far I only seen clips of two fighter pilots landing in Malta saying that according to news sources refusing to bomb thier own people.. I would imagine they are being debrief by the U.S.A./Malta set up...

No this stuff has remained rather unclear. It sounds a bit like Benghazi in the east did not get bombed in the end. And in Tripoli it is possible that they only targeted arms dumps, and may have attacked protesters with guns rather than bombs, at least this is the best hope for now.

Not sure how credible this is but anyways:

A private Libyan jet that was prevented from landing at Beirut airport was carrying on board the Lebanese wife of one of Libyan leader Moammer Gadhafi's sons, Voice of Lebanon radio reported Wednesday.
VDL said Hannibal Gadhafi's wife, who is from the Skaff family, and several members of the ruling family were aboard the jet that Lebanese aviation authorities refused to give the permission to land at Rafik Hariri international airport on Tuesday.

Several Libyan regime figures could have been among the plane's passengers, the radio station said.

As Safir daily said Tuesday that the plane was due to take off from Tripoli's airport before midnight but Lebanese authorities asked Libya to unveil the identity of the 10 people on board before allowing the jet to land in Lebanon.

When the Libyans ignored the Lebanese request, authorities in Beirut ordered airport officials to ask the pilot to divert the plane to a nearby country, either Syria or Cyprus.

ShababLibya on twitter is now suggesting that reports of aircraft shooting at people in Tripoli were wrong, it was panic caused by the presence of the jets in the sky, combined with other gunfire that was taking place on the ground.

Monday evenings worst fears about the use of planes do indeed appear to be emerging as having been more fear than substance, something which showed hints of being apparent late on Monday, just as the media were hyping this aspect up.

This a picture of one of the LARAF F1s that landed in Malta. The IB pylon clearly has a fusing shackle hanging down from the rear. So this jet recently dropped a live bomb... somewhere...

Live 68mm SNEBs on the OBs.

Briefly looking at the picture it's interesting to note a number of people sitting on tanks... without sounding like a numbty.. surly they must know they are coming their way isn't anyone there organising defences and collecting all these equipments, assuming of course the tanks etc, are in working order. It's a bit worrying just to see people sitting on tanks and having photos taken... Time I think to make more of a stand if possible other than throwing rocks, marches, etc,

If I was a pilot on the run wanting to land in a foreign land, I'd drop my bombs in the sea before making myself unwelcome.

(just before I get accused of war crimes by some fucknuts on here.)

He should have cleaned the SNEBs off into the Med too, they are fucking ordnance disposal nightmare. Especially for the AFM Air Wing who'd probably have a job on disposing of a Bic lighter.

Often airplanes are not allowed to land if they still have live/armed munitions and will dump them in a designated area of the sea or desert before landing.

That's correct even during the second world war it was often the case for pilots returning from a bombing mission for some reason didn't drop them, to drop their loads into the north sea. It makes landing safer if you wondering why...

If they were bothered about that I don't think they'd have landed with with 36 x 6kg HEAT warheads and 36 x live rocket motors in the SNEBs. I think they pickled the bombs into the sea just to get below the MLW.

I am so outraged at what's going on in #Lybia that I'll use my outdoor voice indoors once or twice today.

Useless BBC News, it's all about "where is the plane scheduled to evacuate Britons, ooh it's leaving Gatwick, why didn't they send it earlier, this is outrageous".
