Libya - civil unrest & now NATO involvement

Yes, well there's this article which isn't exactly optimistic:

Gaddafi's Next Move: Sabotage Oil and Sow Chaos?

I appreciate this is likely to stir up the 'big button' debate which was going on earlier and would like to point out in advance that when I post links it does not necessarily mean that I agree with the content (in fact in this instance I would far rather it wasn't likely to be true). In any event it's another possible set of scenarios, written by some ex-CIA bod from an interview with a 'source'. Make of that what you will.

A scenario I thought likely too ...He funded and supplied terrorists (IRA, PLO, etc) who were having a pop at the west and used the diplomatic pouch to get weapons into country's and find some sort of justification for it ...
I cant help feeling if his backs against the wall ..there are really no limits

Our planes land at tripoli , and hes got 300 hostages right there ...like the 70's with planes stuck on the tarmac ,

( terrorists , whos actions he agreed with supplied and trained , remember the camps........ he does go back to the 70's )

He is going to try to force Americas hand and get military intervention ..then the whole middle east erupts ...has his mind already gone past retaining the country ? ....and now its going to be major scorched earth ..?.. Hes already bombing parts of his own army

escalation will be faster than we can respond to

Sultan Al Qassemi
Al Jazeera: Clashes between pro & anti Gaddafi protesters in the Sarman district of Tripoli #Libya

There have also been some tweets which suggest the fear factor has been pushed way too far by Gadaffi and has backfired, with more people thinking that they are dead if they give up now so they may as well keep going with the struggle.

Nope, he'll either fight to the death, in which case this is gonna get VERY nasty, or plan an exit. torching the wells aids him in neither scenario. And no, he isn't mad.

err ..I was being sarcastic

More along the lines of rabid ..... and yes I agree it is going to get very nasty ...hes running out of territory ,military and options ..fast

Ive been called here an utter loon on here .....but I can tie my own shoelaces ..honest .. madness is all a bit relative ...so say the voices

Not many people could come up with a 90 min speech like that though .....and not be defective somewhere in the cranium

There may be no limits to what he would like to do, but there certainly limits to what he is actually able to do.

s'true - they all promise a scorched earth future, but invariably find that their mates and soldiers seem to fuck off quite silently and subtly as thinsg heat up - Ceaucescu's chopper pilot pretened engine problems and then fucked off sharpish after dumping them during their ill fated escape

I have been following it via various outlets constantly for days, yet when the bbc news at 10 shows grown men pleading for help, "please", it strike a different chord. I am hugely impressed that the people still resist despite knowing/seeing the massacres that have occurred.

Is there any strong idea about where Gaddafi Snr actually is? the statement earlier didn't prove a thing, it barely showed him in shot with another person. Also, any idea when Saif is going to make this alleged statement to the nation?

Well he is certainly deluded, which can indicate a number of things.

He made his speech in a building which had been bombed by the USA, possibly one of his palaces. I am pretty sure many Libyans who saw it will know were it is.

statetv no idea who is speaking.

sounds like it is concessions a gogo.

e2a: wait, a committee to reveal truths and conspiracy against libya.

Oh, it's all Al Jazeera's fault.

e2a e2a: Fuck knows what that was about.

Even little kids don't like him, his days are numbered.

Well how about that:

SultanAlQassemi Sultan Al Qassemi
Al Jazeera breaking: @AJArabic Correspondent: Two battleships have arrived in Malta after refusing Gaddafi's orders to shell Benghazi #Libya

AJE saying they are near the coast and no contact made. Italy air force keeping an eye on them. have been since lunch.

and twitter have been claiming it is actually in Malta since then too.

This is the location
Bab al-Azizia is a military barracks and compound, situated in the southern suburbs of the Libyan capital Tripoli. It is the main base location for the Libyan leader Colonel Muammar al-Gaddafi.
Originally called Bāb al `Azīzīyah,[1] the 6 square kilometres (2.3 sq mi) base[2] is strategically located south of Tripoli at the northern end of Airport Highway, allowing easy access to both government assets within the city, as well as direct high speed road access to Tripoli International Airport.

What's the rough gist Q? (no audio here)

He talks of Tripoli being mostly quiet. There are about 50 cars driving around 'celebrating'. Pro-gadafi, the intention to intimidates. He talks of mercenaries he has seen. Him and a friend did a count and he thinks black people make up maybe 15% of population and therefore probably army but not enough to explain mercenary groups. He did wonder if some might be from different tribes in Libya, but they are definitely not from Tripoli. Chit chat about Gadafi speech, how people feel about him. How he does have some support but maybe 1% of population.

In another audiotweet a woman said her friends neighbours were waving the green flag despite 2 of their sons being killed because of threats.

something on tv earlier also spoke about how some African leaders might be scared to condemn him because they are scared as he has funded trouble in their countries.

Calm before the storm I wonder. Hopefully the people are sat at home steeling themselves for another push, not cowering.

It appears a part of his speech earlier was making reference to wikileaks.

According to translation on a clip thats on the Guardian site he said 'This is a confession by the biggest power in the world that Gaddafi is not a president or an ordinary person'.

Well, one of the wikileaks, which was widely reported when first released a month or so ago, had comments from Ben Ali that Gaddafi is "not a normal person". lols.

Chad seems to be the origin of the armed mercenaries, which means the Libyan military, a highly trained organisation by the way, will be extremely pissed off, and if, say, any of the relatives of prominent military personnel are killed by freelancers hired by Daffy Jnr, then there will be nobody alive inheriting the Gadflydaffi gold.

I'd be laughing if it wasn't so serious...

I wonder how BaE systems got on with the trade fair in Abu Dhabi this week, bet they sold plenty of crowd dispersal technology....
