Lambeth Council Watch - news and updates about the 'co-operative' council

I put this on the Gaza thread:

Ex Cllr Sonia Winifred does not say if she was actually accused of anti semitism at her show trial.

At the time of the Lambeth Green motion to Council for a ceasefire the right of the Labour party who are the leadership of the ruling Labour group were still going on the line that calling for a ceasefire in a multicultural borough like Lambeth was "divisive".

Polite way to suggest if not directly anti semitism but supporting a ceasefire was taking sides and helping to create a situation where anti semitism could increase.

Its just a reminder of the personal cost to individuals for sticking up what they think is right. Against a political establishment who have been smearing people for this.

In case anyone is interested - a number of the Brixton/West Norwood related allocations have been dropped since the last consultation

Hello. Is there any way to watch Lambeth's live streamed meetings after the event. I was unable to go to the Overview and Scrutiny Committee meeting yesterday (12 March at 7pm) and would like to see it. I've emailed Lambeth and left a message but not heard back

No wonder barely anyone bothers to engage when Lambeth issues gobbledegook like this

We want your ideas on Lambeth’s proposed Site Allocations Development Plan Document (SADPD).

Tell us if you think the plans for development of these meet agreed tests of ‘soundness set out in national policy, para 35.

Once adopted theSADPD will form part of the statutory development plan for Lambeth alongside the London Plan 2021 the Lambeth Local Plan and the Southbank and Waterloo Neighbourhood Plan

Another Lambeth by-election coming up- this time in Streatham Common & Vale.

Tom Rutland has finally gone to concentrate on fighting to become MP for East Worthing and Shoreham

Presumably the poll will now be called for May 2nd?

Testing the waters on Knights Hill here.
Is the Tory candidate really Conservative and Unionist Party in this day and age - in London?
I want to know about the Independent candidate. Absolutely no information available on the web.
There are numerous people around called Janet Gayle - computer programmers, nurses, business consultants.
But the policy - after all if you are going to "waste your vote" you need to know what you are voting for!
At least this website could rustle up a photo of the Green Party candidate - and according to Tricky Skills' analysis she might be in with a good chance.

Wow, not sure when I last saw Conservative and Unionist Party for a council election

Service charges up 300%

Fancy a swap for a 2 beds in the delectable Higgs Yard? The service charge there is £229 per month - and nobody's moved in yet! Apartment 17 | Higgs Yard | Private Sale homes in Loughborough Junction
This is what's wrong with this country - we have "charities" ripping off people - all in the interest of providing "affordable housing"
BTW capital cost of that £229 per month service charge is £625,000. There is a three bed two balcony flat for £825,000.
Here is the Metro's spin on a cheaper option last Thursday 4/4/24

What is pet friendly? - can you hold your cat out on the balcony and get it to piss on the neighbours?

I would be very surprised if Janet Gayle - the independent candidate in Knight's Hill - is not same person as the resident of Macintosh Court who has been campaigning on Lambeth's neglect and botched repairs to her sheltered housing block.

In the Knight’s Hill Ward, the candidacy of Nicholas James Sanders (Liberal Democrats) has been proposed by Nicholas J Sanders.

In the Streatham Common & Vale Ward, the candidacy of Duncan Eastoe (The Green Party) has been proposed by Duncan P Eastoe.

Is this common practice, or simply a reflection of the levels of support for these candidacies?
Its totally normal - but can only happen if the candidate is on the register of electors in the ward they are standing in.

It is a way of demonstrating "I live in the ward I want to represent", without needing to have your home address shared. It is understandable but sad that councillors no longer feel safe to do so.

Blimey - no wonder Martin Abrams is not flavour of the month in Progress House!
