james purnell hate thread

He should contact his MP and make a complaint

Meh, that's pretty standard jobcentre nonsense IME. Depending on how long you've been claiming JSA they can expect you to (read fuck you over if you don't) apply for jobs up to ninety minutes' commute away.

Ninety minutes in rush hour can become three hours.
Sorry boss, the bus got stuck in traffic.

They of course wouldn't take a job like that themselves.

yes, after three months of not finding a job (duh) you are expected to 'broaden your search'. So if that means spend three hours each way on a bus or whatever, getting stuck in endless traffic jams during rush hour, it's your tough shit for living in a place with so few options. Seems faintly ridiculous doesn't it.

I'm going to use the word "bullshitter" to describe Purnell today. As I recently discovered that he allegedly attempted to pervert historical events in order to validate his campaign to reform benefits.

Looks like this Labour Historian, Greg Rosen, also likes bashing the poor and supporting Purnells welfare reforms, oh and yes, another Karen Matthews refererence, easy how these confortably off academics do it , isn't it?

It is hard work being poor......we soldier on........taken to flashing on my screen the so called creep.........James smiles on the screen....' yes this is the man, went to school in France, then mummy on her own ? paid for him to go to grammar school ....then.......Oxford + now after 3 weeks of chats with David Freud they now have blitzed the benefits system on your behalf. Its called democracy. Smile.

Stress...after stress .......as poor people try to cope with yet another new system forced upon them by the powers that be.

That sounds a tad paranoid, with all due respect.

In an appeal against the DWP for stopping the dole of someone sacked due to spending too much time travelling to work, living too far away, it would make them look ridiculous, and get them a pasting from the press.
They seem to want the press on their side, this shit wouldn't exactly do that, would it.

from not james. :)

that's exactly how they work. You are expected to broaden your search after three months, and not just in terms of travel distance. In all areas. The government, on the other hand, won't spend money rejuvenating areas or improving the rural lot though so everyone has to end up commuting to whatever city is nearest and spend their lives sitting on buses.

Sorry, but that sounds a bit schizo.

Like those whacko parents who rough their kids up, and then tell them off for having ripped clothes, when they, themselves ripped them, when dragging the kid around.
Double bind, google it.

It wouldn't stand up in a tribunal.

Im surprised you think this. It's been JC+ policy for ages that, after thirteen weeks (three months) of claiming JSA you must expand your search parameters. At that point, you have to look further afield and consider work that isn't remotely connected to your skills or what you may have been doing previously for example.

More desperation!

LOL! They're going to employ people to kick *the workshy* out of bed and do community service. This in a country where elderly people can't get a few hours social services help to get up, fed and washed etc.

I doubt it.

What total nonsense.
That article is so fake that, even in Januuary, it makes a valid april fool's joke.

Is it a fake article or something? How can anyone countenance such nonsense?

Turning up late, gets you photoshopped into photos.

Me thinks it's only a matter of time until this government rising star makes a huge mistake.

it is a 2 year old story to be fair.

But that's as well as losing documents on trains and lying outright, here;

http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/blog/2008/dec/10/jamespurnell-labour

According to the Guardian, Purnell said...

As the article mentions "Hardie did not actually mention benefits in his 1893 speech, not least they didn't exist."

So it looks like bullshit is another endearing trait we can attribute to this little monster.

With unemployment figures becoming so high, I assume the government are looking to minimise all welfare payments. If they do this with "government targets" their "anti-poverty targets" will fail.

Notice the huge amount of radio, tv and web advertising about Benefit Cheats recently?

Notice the headlines every few days - today it was the turn of the absent fathers.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...rts-driving-licences-draconian-new-plans.html

Next week they'll probably start scaremongering amongst some other group of people using the media as a poking stick.

I do agree with sorting out the cheats etc., but will the system be selective or sensitive enough to be accurately effective? I don't think the government has the resources to do the job properly, unfortunately. Especially with Purnell at the helm, he is a liability.

Dear British Public

We all make mistakes.
I am here to announce, exclusively to Urban75, the "Welfare Reform Re-forms"
We will try, genuinely to help the many unemployed and sick into work, if they want a job.
We will help the disillusioned on JSA to train for, and find proper work.
We will offer the incapacitated training or work experience or guidance, if they want.
I realise, my original Welfare Reform sounded draconian, but hey guys, we all make mistakes, and I guess I got a bit excited with the power. And the weak are the easiest to fuck over, hence my stupidity with druggies and doleys.
The photo below shows my shame, and this post is to announce the "Welfare Reform Re-forms"

Signed Shames Purnell

Smells of the Workhouse or even the old Eastern Bloc about these latest proposals, 'whole streets with 'special measures', mmm, I wonder if Liberty and other civil liberty groups will look into this, they are already forcing addicts to take up medical treatment, and have DWP staff acting as 'nurses' and 'spys' in G.P's surgeries.

"Doctor, Doctor, I think my paranoid psychosis has come back.
I feel like everyone thinks I stink of drink.
And, I could have sworn, I saw a spy in the reception area."

"No, Impludo, your paranoid psychosis has
NOT returned, there IS a spy in the office, and they have just told me you stink of booze, now piss off!"

The good news is that if they're picking on entire neighbourhoods then it makes it more likely that the neighbourhood in question will band together and tell the state to get fucked. If they're turning up with a bus each morning to take everyone on the street off to the salt mines for £1 an hour then I wouldn't want to be the bus driver put it like that.

I was in an Eastern Block country during the 1980s.

And I witnessed forced labour; they used army trucks not buses.

I don't think anyone would argue we've quite got to Soviet Bloc levels of unpleasantness quite yet, but any steps in that direction have to be a bad thing in their own right surely?
