Truck hits US soldiers in Kuwait

A truck has rammed into a group of United States soldiers at a camp in northern Kuwait, a US military spokesman said.

He said he had no details on casualties and could not confirm whether it was a deliberate attack.

An apparent suicide attack against US forces near Najaf in southern Iraq left four soldiers dead on Saturday.

Iraqi Vice-President Taha Yassin Ramadan declared that the attack marked the start of the "routine" use of suicide bombing to fend off coalition troops.

and the winner is...

Jay Garner, the retired US general who will oversee humanitarian relief and reconstruction in postwar Iraq, is president of an arms company that provides crucial technical support to missile systems vital to the US invasion of the country.

Garner's business background is causing serious concerns at the United Nations and among aid agencies, who are already opposed to US administration of Iraq if it comes outside UN authority, and who say appointment of an American linked to the arms trade is the 'worst case scenario' for running the country after the war.

"I weep for you," the Walrus said:
"I deeply sympathize."
With sobs and tears he sorted out
Those of the largest size,
Holding his pocket-handkerchief
Before his streaming eyes.

"O Oysters," said the Carpenter,
"You've had a pleasant run!
Shall we be trotting home again?'
But answer came there none--
And this was scarcely odd, because
They'd eaten every one.

Gaby Rado is dead, this is the second colleague of mine to die in a week, I am so upset I can hardly type.

HHJ Wonderland: My sympathies and condolences to you and the entire press community. Gaby Rado was a wonderful reporter, the British (and world) press has lost one of its best.

Conspiracy Theory Alert!!

Well, yes, quite. But my first reaction when I heard that was "what was he doing on the roof in the first place?"

There's a thing in the media section of today's Observer where a ITN bod says Terry Lloyd was killed by "accidental fire by coalition forces" and that his crew are still missing. . .

2030: uk time :Three people die and one is injured when a US marine helicopter[alledgedly] crashes in southern Iraq, Pentagon officials say.

All from BBC and reuters:confirmed.

Has anyone noticed the new reinforcements sent to Iraqi war have no desert camouflage?

Effectively reiterating the bad planning, and underestimation of the probable resistance?

This fact not alluded to by any of the Defence Analysts taking up positions in the various TV studios!

Also if the war is going to go into May, June this would be a rerun of Bonaparte, and Hitler mistakes in reverse! (Cold in Russian steps)

Surprisingly no one is talking about it!

Someone did mention Stalingrad last week before it all started to go wrong.

Could turn out to be prophetic!

I had indeed Jingo!

btw Rumsfeld surely is a "genious" at political manouvering. I've just seen a press conference where he was sweating slightly trying to justify how the war's going. Despite the fact that he's widely known to take a keen interest in all the details of operational matters, he's now insisting it was Gen. Franks' plan all along now the war's going tits up, and all he did was sign the papers (of course!).

What a brave politician. Thing is he's almost surely not gonna get away with it, seeing as he's the US Defence Secretary.

If only life were like that - but the Bush lot seem to be good at selective amnesia.

"The US supply of satellite-guided bombs is running out, Hersh reported, and much of the supply of Tomahawk cruise missiles has been used. "

...when the precision bombs run out, then i guess it'll be back to good old american mass slaughter...

The mayor of Hartlepool is a Frenchman? Isn't there a law against that?
