I think that might be the final straw for me at the RailUK forums

Fromm the mod's statement:

This thread is locked. I'm extremely disappointed in the behaviour of some members in this thread. I would remind everyone of our Forum Rules in particular:

Note the words "some members", not one person. Yet later on got this on a PM:

You made an ass out of yourself yet somehow want to deflect the fault onto other people.

Two different takes on events from what should be have been a single united response, and some abuse too. How professional.

It's a strange thing to be enthusiastic about.
It's like a kind of pre-Internet Rule 34. There's nothing too strange that it won't have its enthusiasts somewhere.

And is being interested in trains (for some value of "interested") really such a strange thing? Trains have had a perennial fascination for people, for all kinds of reasons. And, actually, they're pretty amazing things if you are inclined to look at stuff that way.

The danger with labelling other people's passions as "strange" is that you rather lay yourself open to them returning the compliment. And few of us would want to admit to being so bland and uninteresting that we have no curious passions of our own...

Loads. But they wouldn't interest you.
You can't think of any examples.

People who have a problem with rail enthusiasts are the same people who would have been the vocal racists/sexists/homophobes when it was the social norm to accept such things.

I don't want to be siding with your critics as I tender this opinion. But, instead of going loco, railing against everyone, and steaming in, you should have conducted yourself better. That way, the conversation could have stayed in track, and you could have made your points. Instead, you have engineered a train wreck, and been denied a platform, any more of which could see your account terminating.

Ah seriously, life could be worse Bungle73
Can you not take a small lol from it all?
And just check your journey before you travel next time? :hmm:
It's a simple fix, tbf - then you crack on posting willy nilly about trains with no danger of any more bans

How is that exactly? What relevance do trains through London Bridge have to Blackfriars to Kent services that don't go anywhere near London Bridge?
Responding to people's comments with this kind of ever-finer hairsplitting is exactly how you got your account handed to you over there at the end of Platform 9.

Your position is rather daft though. Services change or get cancelled for all manner of reasons including but not limited to engineering works and the weather. I'd always check before going to catch a train. Otherwise you WILL eventually get caught out. As you have.

They just kept repeating the same things at me though, and didn't really seem to be taking in what I was telling them.

It's not just this incident though, I've had various issues with them dating back a few years.

Has anything like this ever happened to you where you were able to acknowledge that you were, even just in part, at fault?

Very statesmanlike, Athos :)

Those are temporary changes though, and this is a permanent one. And as I said in the thread, I did check the live running info in the app, and the train didn't show up, but that didn't mean much since it hadn't shown up on a previous occasion when I'd checked, yet it was still running anyway.

In fact timetables are only good for a year or something. The fact the new timetable often replicates the last doesn't preclude the possibility of it being altered.

The website or the train company? :hmm:

I'm at the end of a Southern route so services are endlessly cancelled (more recently partially down to industrial action, with plenty of notice given, and lots down to the company undermining that ongoing action - but also down to constant 'works' so replacement buses etc... omg I SHOULD join the website    ) but even without that, I just CHECK and never assume any train will turn up!
You're complaining to the wrong people, eh? Email the train company if you want to have a useful bitch about it, otherwise have a moan and move on, or at least ENJOY the fact that you've been repeatedly banned from a train forum, I dunno?! :)

Usually threads like this are derailed by now. Someone puffs out their chest and gets all steamed up and goes off like a rocket
