have you ever been canvassed?

i only see it on the news. it always looks rather awkward and embarrassing for all parties.
does it only happen in marginal constutuencies?
is it just for the cameras or does it also go on if they aren't there?
could you be persuaded by a doorstopping?

Yes, I have.

But canvassing isn't about persuading. It's about finding out whether you're a supporter, and therefore worth getting out to vote.

I haven't been. But him indoors has been doing some phone canvassing this year. Seems to quite enjoy it :hmm:

i have been asked who i plan to vote for outside the polling station. they had lists, so i presumed they were checking off the people they had already canvassed.

Yup. It's to see if people will need to be knocked up later in the day.

It's all about 'getting your support out'. The idea is that you achieve a differential turnout, with your dudes making the trip, but the others staying home. So you don't noise up supporters of other parties. You leave them alone.

knocked up? is that a good idea? i suppose it's creating more potential voters, but it's a bit long term.

I've been canvassed, done the canvassing, knocking up and number taking at the polling station. Call me a saddo but I loved all of it. I also love going to the polling station and voting.

I've done loads of canvassing but I think I've only been canvassed once when I was still with my parents. Libdems they were and jolly nice too, though I was naive enough to be a Labour voter at the time.

We often get relgious canvassers for some reason. I politely reflect back at them with vegetarian evangelism if I have the time. I know all the quotes from a host of scripture to back me up. Lucky things.

The Greens let you out in public!

Knock knock
Hello
Moron, what's wrong with you people? Is that nike? Are you wearing nike?

Why suppose I would behave on the doorstep as I do on a messageboard?

Because you seem to be a it out of control. Why behave different on a message board than you would on the doorstep? If you're saying that you lie and dissemble in real life then i again express my outrage at the Greens letting you loose.

I vaguely remember Ken Clarke knocking on my mum's door when I was a kid, I think probably 1985, and that's one of the safest seats in the country still (Rushcliffe)- he certainly can't have been too worried abuot losing it at the time!

I had a knock at the door recently and was surprised to see the eccentric looking woman, I had seen around my neighbourhood. Turns out she is one of my tory councillors, told her I hadn't decided who i was gonna vote for, but it wouldn't be them.

I just got canvassed just now. I had already decided that I would not vote Lib Dem because they sent me a nauseating pretend hand-written note thanking me for being so welcoming. But then the Lib Dem lady at the door was so nice and friendly and banged on about what a beautiful place my block is and I got confused and didn't like to hurt her feelings so I said I'd vote for them.

But will you?

(They now have you down as a supporter, and will bug you on Thursday about voting).
