Glastonbury 2022

We head to Isle of Avalon Campside in G-Town** for this afternoon, Fri 17/6. Then two days towning it

**(with some rain promised n Saturday and Sunday! :hmm: -- but that could be the last of that, see my next post!)

Fab, I'm onsite from tomorrow morning, so will miss you in G Town but will see you on site.

Weather wise, Metcheck isn't saying much rain over the weekend, but everyone else is, so will have to see. Am just hoping it's not one of those torrential storms that happens round there after a hot spell sometimes. There was one in 2016, I got caught in it just before heading on site the weekend before, was torrential with rivers running down roads. If this weekend just turns out to be light showers though then that will be nothing but good for the site.

You really think what motivated the fence was a desire to exclude black people? I mean, I accept that it has that effect, and the fence was always going to affect the socio-economic groups in which people of colour are disproportionately represented, but it seems a stretch to suggest it was a deliberate act motivated by racism.
Saw plenty of Black ( and white) Mancs selling a lift over the fence in those days, and a go on their mobile for a tenner. :D

If anyone's interested, some mates have spare return coach tickets - leaving Victoria at 2330 on Tue, to arrive at the festival 0530 Wed.

Used to be the case that loads of black kids used to come up for Glastonbury from Liverpool, bristol and Cardiff in the 80’s and early nineties. The fence was part of a strategy to keep them out. Music was another part.

These cunning whiteys just laugh in the face of fences and music.

I bet Extinction Rebellion get in ok.

It's my first time in a van, it's borrowed off family.

I'm planning on sleeping in the awning though, I do love my tents, don't so much fancy being inside the van. The kids can be inside.

Maybe I'll become a convert. Tbh I'm already eyeing up borrowing it again for Boomtown so I don't have to drag all my stuff into crew camping (Boomtown is fucking hilly!). I'm very much looking forward to not lugging stuff into Glastonbury. I've done it enough years, in all weathers, with a baby strapped to my front, with small kids, on my own sometimes etc etc

Can we have "What's Your Current Glastonbury View" pictures from those of you that make it please? :)

Technically not, as all sharing of pictures from the site (other than by the festival) is banned. I'm not a massive rule follower, but I'm not going to risk being on site this early :) However, my view right now is literally the inside of a portacabin, as it has been since early last week. Only just been out on site for the first time tonight, wandered over to Maceos in Block 9 for an ale. Was pretty rammed in there, but jolly enough. I can see tomorrow being another 8am to 11pm portacabin day too. Still love it mind

Yeah no worries, got that memo, as soon as allowed. :D

It's a general request for the next few days, not looking for sneak previews.

I saw a programme on BBC 2 last night about Glastonbury and Michael and Emily Eavis were saying that they decided to put the fence up because there was one year where there were so many people at ne stage to see the chemical brothers that they were shitting themselves that people would get crushed. It became really unsafe- they realised how packed the festival had become and that they had to restrict numbers for health and safety- thus the super fence.

I was at that, but stood well back out of the crowds, the light show was so good I think you got a better view from back there.
