Glastonbury 2009

Well, shame I never met any of you since no one replied to my question about when the meetups were and it would have cost a fortune and taken forever to wade through the thread on my mobile phone.

Obviously none of you wanted to meet a weird cunt like me anyway.

Fuck it.

oh give over, all you had to do was be at the cider bus and sit there until you saw someone :p

You posted that question at 12.15 on the 24th. Most people would have left early the next morning and wouldn't have logged on again until they got home so how could they have replied?

presumably by logging on while we were at the festival on our non existent and expensive mobile phone/internet coverage??:rolleyes: ( its good enough for us not Vel I guess????)

Mysterygirl and I were at the cider bus last year and didnt meet any urbs, we hadnt met any previously who would be there. Thankfully we had a lovely time anyway and this year had the lovely Pennimania to go looking and children who carried a sign round saying "URBAN 75":)

There were still several people busy on the thread at that point. Unfortunately, it seems they were more interested in inane gibber...

I've reached a bit of a crisis - I don't know why I go anymore since none of my friends do anymore. Glastonbury got quite lonely for me at times this year. Hell I've always been somewhat of a loner, but it was worse than usual this year; I felt it quite bad :(

Perhaps I should give up and go to the insanely-pigged Wickerman instead. At least people I know go there...

I was when on site i guess, but 3G died on Wednesday so no more web access.

Dood, get a job there, you'll always have fun folks to hang out with then. That said, i quite enjoy festivals on my own, always have.

The problem is I find it hard to just talk to strangers and start up a conversation. So I end up wandering around not talking to anyone... Aye, having nae mates is a pain in the arse.

Working ... I've thought of it before but I am a fat useless bastard, no one would want me for anything.

Hah, i tried the 'walk around and talk to random people' thing one night this year and only ended up being a shoulder to cry on for a really pissed guy going through a messy divorce who may never see his kids again. It's an over rated festival experience.

Balls.

dont be daft! next year PM people your mobile number in plenty of time, pref take an orange one:) and if you are working there are all sorts of jobs you can do as far as I can see from going as a punter and being friends with workers, from guarding gates and checking wristbands to more detailed things like manning info stands.

When I can attend sans kids I intend to join a mate who works on the park stage every year:)

See, I think it's a state of mind, Vel. I was worried about going alone but actually had an utterly fab time. I did start up a couple of conversations with various people I was sitting next to but to be honest I wasn't that bothered. I'm not usually someone who's totally comfortable being that alone but there was so much going on it was hard to feel lonely.

Loving the Oxfam stewarding info folks, right up my alley I think.

Good age range of people to work with? Not all God squad, for example?

Says they feed you so I presume you take your own accommodation and bedding, but not cooking gear?

from 18 to about 60 that I've met :)

You get a meal voucher per shift worked, which you either cash in at the caterers oxfam provide, or at an agreed stall on site at the smaller festivals. You can also buy food or cook your own.

there's a thread about working for them a bit further down this forum.

or if you fancy doing glade, camp bestival, womad, shambala, creamfields or bestival this says they still have spaces this year http://www.oxfam.org.uk/get_involved/stewarding/index.html

I've realised I've taken too many photos of me and my friends off our mash rather than any interesting ones of the actual festival or performances.

Oh well I'm a shit photographer anyway.

Ate with the Oxfam lot last year and the food was all a bit brown rice and so on, but ate in Ivymead this year (just by it) and the food was spectacular for festival catering. Wandered up to the Oxfam one for the bar sometimes though, and it looked really fun and sorted.

the ivymead catering was rubbish for me as they have set meal times and I managed to miss every one

Oxfam had three this year (maybe 4) - nuts who do first class veggie stuff, pink ladies which was sandwiches and packed lunches, and a meaty one.
