Glastonbury 2005

Ahhhh!

Aw!

I just sent out an email round work letting all the editors know I'm going to be off for a week so they should send me work now. Even the most dry and uncommunicative of them has mailed back to say have a good time and enjoy the mud bath!!

Bollix.

Because I've been having to deal with other stuff I have only just got round to booking travel (I know, I know...). I had thought that National Express just take as many reservations as people make and then send how ever many coaches are needed. It would appear not :(

I was trying to get on the Wednesday 9am coach but that's booked up, and it would seem the one after that is too. Now, I really do want to get there as early as possible and so don't really want to commit to a later coach unless it's absolutely necessary. What I'm wondering is, would it be wise/practical to go up late on the Tuesday? I imagine quite a few people are doing this but in because of that are locals not particularly favoured towards such folk? Or is the train worth a look. I think I remember reading that whilst there is a connection from the station to the festival site it still drops you off quite a walk away; is it particularly bad.

Feel free to mock, I do indeed deserve it, but any advice would be mucho appreciated :)

I've never been on the train but afaik there is a shuttle service (for ticket holders only) from Castle Carey Station that drops you off at Gate A. I suppose the lenght of the walk depends on where you're going to be camped.

Train has a shuttle bus meeting it... and takes about 2 and a half hours. I'm on the 8:35 one - there are earlier ones but the tickets are pricier...

a word of warning that they generally have sniffer dogs sat around at castle carey which you cant avoid walking past as you wait for the bus. at least they always used to.

if you arrive on tues night you wont be able to get anywhere near the site -its not like you could sit o/s the gates all night. the last few years they've been putting people in mini busses and driving them miles away - you then have to get back. you have a few choices - you could get a national express coach to bristol and then the bus from there? there might be space on that one. or get the train but i should imagine that will be booked too. or try a liftshare on the other thread. wouldnt suggest you head down tues night unless you ahve somewhere warm and dry to be. it gets cold and dark in the middle of nowhere.

or you could try to get to the tor i guess, there's normally quite a large group up there the night before the gates open - but if you cant get a lift then you've got a long walk to the festival.

oh and the bus station is by gate A which is no long walk unless you happen to want to camp miles away on the other side of the site.
see you wednesday

Am all confused that you're all going for Monday - whats the earliest you're allowed on site? And does this mean that when we arrive on Tuesday to set up the stall, feeling all smug that we beat the crowds, we'll have to fight our way through piles of munted Urbanites? Cos I'm gonna bring me a big ol' shovel..... :D

to the best of my knowledge newbie, pie eye and myself will arrive sunday or monday in order to start work tuesday (could go saturday but what for??). JTG will arrive tues to do his stuff and everyone else will arrive wed.

pm me where your stall will be and i'll come and be smug with you ;)

The only problem is the sodding walk from Gate A to the urbanite camp - please tell me the buses will drop me by the gate and not a twenty minute walk away...

the bus station is about 20m from the gate - and theres plenty of nice places to camp around there :) (seriously i mean that as everyone walks straight in the gate and to the furthest point of the site first - which means the fields round gate A dont fill up (lime kiln & wicket)). i was going to tender a move of urbanite camp this year but i decided it was not my place.

dervish is still debating where to camp as i'll be in toms field and the dragon field is miles away :p

Ta - that cheers me up a bit. I love the urbanite encampment place - really perfect.

i go on the train all the time and haven't got any complaints. i have seen sniffer dogs there before though, though never had any problems.

my mates have camped up that way every year for many years. the only reason i'm not there myself this year is beacuse i fancy a change of scene!

Sorry if it's been mentioned, can't be arsed to trawl through thread. Where abouts is the Urban camp going to be? Is it in the Dragon Field?

I've just received an email advising that my tickets were dispatched yesterday by special delivery to arrive in the next 2-3 days, but I received my tickets nearly two weeks ago

I didn't realise the Dragon Field was the Urbanites camp till recently. I usually camp there anyway, so i've probably seen some of you lot there before and not known, it will be nice to see all of you up there :) If i can get there early enough to get pitched!

The Dragon field is nice and peaceful (apart from all night LV- but i'm usually up anyway)...and small enough that you can find your tent in the dark....unlike Pennards
:)

i'm sure before LV the dragon field was a much nicer place to be.

and pennards is a wasteland of nothingness - i really dont see why people are so keen to claim their plot there (at least i can understand why people want to be in the dragon field - but pennards has nothing to offer at all).

imo

Working at LV

Just been asked today to work at Lost Vagueness and have 2 tickets for Wireless Festival 24th June (Moby, New Order etc) at knock down price as a result. Didn't they used to have a tickets forum on U75 or is it not allowed any more?

It sounds like an idea for 2007.

We have two years to have a 8,000-post thread arguing about it :D

Never made it to camp urban75 cause of the distance (I generally arrive about late Wednesday evening). This year, I'm going from Bristol to Glasto on Wed morning, to make sure I manage it... :D

When you went, did the shuttle service drop you really far away from the site?

I got the shuttle from castle cary to the site last year, and ended up about a 20-30 minutes walk from the first gate.

Got my travelling sorted (as far as you can with Glasto). Got a ticket on the 9:35 out of Paddington, though no reservation so I'm gonna have to get there early to get a place :(

Thanks to Wiskey and others for the advice :)

Really? On the site the 8:35 was the same price as the earlier ones (roughly £69  ); the 9:35 was the first reasonably priced one (around £25).

Oh, and *dons flameproof suit* I've just checked the Clash Finder thingy and after Hayseed Dixie I'm gonna have to decide whether to watch Proclaimers or Coldplay :( I saw Coldplay at V2003* but I was on me tod which is never as much fun and they'll probably put on a fairly impressive 'show' (lazeeerrrrrrrs :D). On the other hand, I've been wanting to see The Proclaimers for quite a while and they'll probably be quite good fun, it won't have the heaving masses of the Pyramid stage and I won't have to move after watching Hayseed Dixie.

Probably won't make my mind up until I get there....

*I was young, I didn't know!

I reccomend you see Coldplay myself, they're class :)

*scarpers*

Yeah, go and see Coldplay so there's more room on the rest of the site for the music lovers.

Loks like I'm allowed to post again :)

Weather on a knifeedge according to latest reports. Possibility A -- warm and sunny throughout, still fairly likely. Possibility B, some showers at the weekend (after a warm, sunny start Weds/Thurs), with temps notticeably cooler.

They can't decide which way this will pan out, all depends how far North the pesky Low Pressure is ...

Will be clearer tomorrow. But essentially, far far less rain than last year if any, but whether its warm or not all depends.

To be honest I doubt too many people mind if it gets cool, you can always add more layers/consume hot food or drink/abuse your body until it wouldn't know if someone had dipped your hand in liquid nitrogen ,whereas if it rains you get wet, end of. And as many have said on here, it can very easily be too hot.
