Galloway's Workers' Party of Britain

Looks like their newest recruit is a council candidate in Rotherham who's a veteran of the anti-trans (and anti drag queen story telling) protests in Honor Oak. Protests where he lined up with Lawrence Fox, Turning Point UK, the fake vicar and ex C18 members. They've been called out on it but still full support for their man.
Given the stuff we've heard about them having different sets of leaflets for Asian and white areas in Rochdale, I can imagine a WPB candidacy in Rotherham might be a bit "interesting". Although maybe there'd be less scope for that if they're only running in one council ward.

Worker's Party candidates for GE announced. Monty Panesar is the left field candidate on the list. What stands out for me is that quite a few of these could be on the Reform list and indeed a couple were Ukip. There's quite a churn in there from Ukip to Tory to Worker's Party. Of course, iirc, Galloway himself tried to stand for Ukip or one of it's successors.

His interview on GMB was grotesque. That is, he was grotesque. Like all vain demagogues he cannot stand the light of scrutinty.

His press conference was revealing in many ways. Not just for revealing awful candidates like Craig Murray and whatever UKIP/Tory filth has been attracted to his grift, but for his tacit admission that he supports a trump victory which would be globally disastrous. A dangerous man

I'd have thought a Trump victory would be disastrous for Palestine. I'm not saying Biden is great, I'm saying Trump would be WORSE.

I listened to that and to be honest, the interview was dreadful on both sides. Galloway has clearly played around with the 'God knows who is a Muslim' thing, but Madeley focusing on that was pretty crass.

Panesar hasn't got a clue. Listen to his interview on Times Radio this morning. He's all over the place. He doesn't even understand what NATO is. "it's only my second day". Fuck me it's painful. I've seen more articulate children.

Mate of mine mentioned that there had been an 'altercation' between WPGB and Labour in Longsight, South Manchester. Lots of words and a bit of pushing and shoving apparently. What I did find interesting was a photo of the two candidates posters with both having Palestinian flags. Rahman is the deputy leader of Man City Council .

Bit sad that the only bit of the Galloway mantra he's absorbed is the (kind of) anti-migrant rhetoric.

Interesting. Wonder if starmer has given up on policing candidates who show any sympathy for the Palestinian people? Undoubtedly he hasn't, but it's just too difficult in the middle of an election... even though that didn't stop him fucking up the Rochdale by election and thus giving Galloway's lot a major boost.

That's all he seems to want to refer to but he's not even coherent. He doesn't even know what he thinks about the Rwanda policy. Totally out of his depth and clearly being used by Galloway as some sort of celebrity to boost his chances in Southall.
Yeah, it looked like he hadn't even been given a crib sheet or set of bullet points. But then, it could have been worse. Could have been Craig Murray.

I'm finding Novara's coverage of it as a phenomenon a bit offputting, they seem quite careful not to go in on him too hard. Much as I can understand they'd like to see a proper opposition from the left challenging Starmer the aggressive rejection of social progressivism and embrace of nativism is far too red-brown to be much of a boon to the left's broader ideals. I do wonder if it's linked to the comments under their youtube content, which are very positive about Galloway (to the point where it seems likely his supporters are deliberately brigading).

His fans won't care. They will just say it's the media elite being an elite media, sneering down at the plebs.
Yup, definitely a Trump-style cult of personality around Galloway where he can do no wrong in the eyes of his supporters, despite his problematic behaviour and statements being obvious to everyone else.

Doesn't seem like they are particularly holding back here

The Galloway thing is part of the breakdown of traditional politics that's been slowly ongoing for decades and appears to be gathering steam. A genuine left response to the migrant issue is invisible to and unheard by most people, and Galloway can easily be presented by those who direct people's thinking as typically radical left even while they present the left that opposes him as typically radical left. Both have their limited audiences and can be easily ghettoised. Meanwhile everybody else can be herded into the much larger neo-liberal ghetto, which offers nothing other than a continuation of what has resulted in such political fragmentation, which is a reflection of the societal fragmentation it's also responsible for, and preparation for the next war.

It's like going back thirty odd years when that kind of shite was in too many quarters "normal" political discussion.
Apart from the fact he is talking about a "normal" ideal family in one breath and then his scattered multi-family progeny in another, he does come across as particularly repellent, repressed and authoritarian. Fortunately, not at all "normal".

Galloway doesn't care about Gaza
Really? I thought being pro-Palestine was a big part of his political beliefs.

And what's with the homophobia? I know it's always been there but he seems to have gotten worse. Is he one of those people who thinks LGBT people are only that way because they don't work hard enough?

Besides, I don't believe he is sincere on Gaza. He used it to campaign divisively in Rochdale. He is filth

There's always been a social conservatism to him that has, in the main, manifested as opposition to (what he would, often falsely, classify as) identity politics. Something wrapped up as a reassertion of class politics. But it's pretty clear now what it is, straightforward bigotry. It also adds to what is present in the candidates list, which is made up of ex-Tories and Ukipers. I dread to say 'horseshoe theory', but he's certainly bult a bridge to the alt right, even traditional Toryism.
