Terrible news from Belgium
Formula 2: Anthoine Hubert killed in Belgium crash
Formula 2 driver Anthoine Hubert has been killed in a crash at the Belgian Grand Prix, motorsport's governing body the FIA has said.

The Frenchman, who was 22, suffered a huge impact from the car of American Juan Manuel Correa at about 170mph at the Raidillon swerves.

An FIA statement said that Hubert was taken to the medical centre after the incident, and died at 18:35 local time.

Correa was taken to Liege hospital and is in a stable condition, the FIA said.

It looked like Hubert hit the side wall, bounced back into the track almost coming to a rest. Then, unsighted by the crest of the hill until the last second, Correa's car slammed into the wreckage flat out.

:(

RIP.

No doubt lessons will be learned and if there is a possibility to reprofile the outside of that corner to reduce the chances of a car bouncing back into the racing line, then that will be done before next year. I’m not sure how much extra space they have to add to the run off, as it’s on the side of a steep hill, but let’s hope there is something which can be done. Sadly these things often only seem to get addressed after each tragic crash.

The changes to yellow flag and safety car rules which came in after Jules Bianchi’s crash could arguably been introduced at any time, as everyone knew the drivers were paying lip service to the rules about slowing down under double yellow flags. The slightest lift of the throttle pedal was considered to be enough and I can only remember penalties being given when drivers set their fastest sector of the session through the double yellow area.

Just switched on the big 4k HD telly laptop and ready for the race

The start might be the major factor today. Depends on weather and other usual factors all the top five will be going hard at the first corner. I have a feeling Leclerc will not be playing 'too much' of a wingman for Vettel.

That military jet was flying as slow as possible using the current laws of physics. I wonder how fast it can spool its engines up to TOGA speed; it didn't have enough altitude to drop out of a stall.

Sorry, distracted.

Oh, now the pilot is just showing off.
