F1 2018

ah think my internet is playing up

every stream i was going to was stopping and starting

and was giving me a head ache

your links have served me well over the season btw :)

just could not find a good one today

:(
You on Virgin? Mine has been shite today but held it together for the race. Was streaming via a mates Sky Go rather than a stream.

Hammy to Max:

"Ocon is allowed to unlap himself, and you had more to lose."
I noticed in the drivers' interviews after, and in the pen interviews, Max raised the point that "some people said I had more to lose" but stuck to the self-righteous position that as leader his track position was a no-go zone for other cars. Mr Brundle also emphasised that point on Sky.

It seems to me that this attitude sums up perfectly the difference between a five-times world champion and a fast racer.

There's a pragmatic line to be taken, even if you're in the right and Ocon is being a dipstick. A champion has to be able to see the bigger picture and let it go. Max knows all about pulling balls-out, double-dog-dare-you-to-collide manoeuvres. What he came across was another driver with - for that moment anyway - the same mentality.

The five-time world champion summed it up: "Max, you had more to lose." He knows better than any driver on the grid: when you're winning, you have nothing to gain and everything to lose.

Max threw the lead away. Even if he were right about the sanctity of the race leader, he fought a battle he didn't have to fight. And as angry as he was at Ocon, he needs to direct some of that anger towards his own temperament.

So endeth the lesson.

:p

Max ordered to do "public service" (whatever that means)
In the driver weighing room a furious Verstappen confronted Ocon and shoved his rival three times as FIA officials were forced to jump in. It was confirmed last night that Verstappen will be required to take part in two days of “public service” at the direction of the FIA, He will need to perform the days of public service within the next six months. It was stupid of him to get involved, these F1 drivers are a petulant bunch.
What no handbags ;)

Oh dear Lewis
As a fan of Brazil and Senna (as he tells anyone who'll listen) surely Lewis should know the national language of Brazil is Portuguese not Spanish, here is the message he sent out (or his PR team sent out) after the race. Can you spot the error :) LOL
While Spanish is the main language for Latin America, Portuguese is the most widely spoken language in South America, the reason for this is that Brazil has almost the same population as the rest of South America added together, so to do business with Brazil most of the other countries business people learn Portuguese.

Holy crap ^^^.

What happened that meant she ended up going backwards faster than all the other cars were going forwards?

Fucking hell! In all my years of watching motor racing I've never seen a car take off like that. At that speed, and that height...unbelievable. Amazing that no one was killed.

Kubica to drive Williams next season
Well according to reports in Poland anyway, nothing from Williams officially as yet. In 2019, there is still one free seat at the team with rookie George Russell already being confirmed as a driver. The story can be traced back to Polish journalist Cezary Gutowski who tweeted out that Kubica will indeed be Russell's teammate rather than either Sirotkin or Esteban Ocon. Williams have offered the Pole a seat as he can bring a strong financial backing with him, something which is needed at the team after title sponsor Martini's departure.

I guess one tweet does not a driver make, but it is the only news about the Williams 2nd seat for a while :hmm:

Renault seem to have some problems
Just days after it was officially announce that Thierry Koskas will replace Jerome Stoll as president of Renault's sporting arm next year, Nissan chairman and Renault chief executive Carlos Ghosn has been arrested in Tokyo. It seems he has been under-reporting his pay package in the company's financial reports.

In a statement, Nissan said that "over many years Ghosn and another senior executive, Greg Kelly, had been reporting compensation amounts in the Tokyo Stock Exchange securities report that were less than the actual amount, in order to reduce the disclosed amount of Carlos Ghosn’s compensation”. But Ghosn's misdeeds apparently extend beyond a reporting issue :hmm::facepalm: the statement goes on "Numerous other significant acts of misconduct have been uncovered, such as personal use of company assets, and Kelly’s deep involvement has also been confirmed". added Nissan

The market value of both automotive companies took a hit at the open this morning in Europe, with Nissan losing 12% on the Frankfurt stock exchange and Renault falling by approximately the same amount in Paris. The Brazilian-Lebanese executive, better known as "the Cost Killer" in the automobile industry, has been at the helm of Renault since 2005. In 2016, Ghosn approved Renault's return to Formula 1 as a works teams for 2017, and Renault Sport's five-year investment plan destined to bring the manufacturer back to the front of the grid. The 64-year-old's likely ousting from the Nissan-Renault group will inevitably lead to questions about Renault's commitment to F1 and the future of the French outfit.

Ah, the last race. The conclusion. The denouement. The final countdown. The end of term. Le dernier cri. La fin de siecle. Le morte d' Arthur. The remains of the day. The death of a salesman.

Ocon to stay in F1 for 2019
Esteban Ocon will assume the role of Mercedes AMG Petronas Motorsport third and reserve driver for 2019, following confirmation from Toto Wolff at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix that he does not have a race seat. Ocon has been left without a drive for 2019 after losing his spot at the Racing Point Force India F1 Team to Lance Stroll, although the Canadian is yet to be officially announced. Yesterday, Robert Kubica‘s move to Williams Martini Racing proved to be the final nail in Ocon’s hopes for a race seat next year. Wolff, Mercedes boss and Ocon’s manager, stated that Ocon will become the works team’s third and reserve driver, behind Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, fulfilling testing and simulator duties.

Toto said “The plans are pretty clear. He is going to be pretty close to the Mercedes team he will be our reserve driver and third driver. We hope to do the odd test with him, looking at pre-season and in-season, but it’s not sorted out yet. He will do a lot of time in the simulator to make sure that he is ready". With Bottas’s recently extended contract only running until the end of the 2019 season, there is a chance that Ocon could find himself in the Mercedes seat for 2020, but the 22-year-old said that Mercedes have given him “no assurances” over this fact.

Haas protests Racing Point Force India

Haas has made a protest to the FIA over the Racing Point car (It should be remembered that Force India protested Haas and won their protest earlier in the season). THe protest is over "intellectual property rules" in F1, with the rebranded of the team to Racing Point Force India entry running a design built by the original Force India squad that fell into administration over the summer. While F1 constructors are allowed to outsource the design and manufacture of ‘listed parts’, they are required to “retain the exclusive right to use the Listed Parts in Formula 1 so long as it competes in Formula 1”. The regulations add that no competitor can “pass on or receive any information on Listed Parts (including but not limited to data, designs or drawings) directly to or from another competitor or via an external entity or third party”.

Late on Thursday the FIA confirmed Haas had lodged a protest against both Racing Point Force India entries over a potential regulation breach regarding the construction of its cars. An initial hearing this morning was adjourned until after opening practice in Abu Dhabi to allow for further evidence :hmm:

James Key will join McLaren in 2019

McLaren had announced in July that Key would be leaving his role as Toro Rosso technical director to join its line-up. Toro Rosso swiftly retorted that Key was under a long-term contract and would not be released early, which prompted a prolonged deadlock. james Key began his career at Jordan and stayed there through its Midland and Spyker incarnations to the early Force India days, eventually rising to the role of technical director.
After a short spell at Sauber, he has been with Toro Rosso since 2012. It is unclear at what point in 2019 he will join the team, but McLaren has said that he will have no part in the design of the 2019 car
