his team mate was forcing Vettel back into Ric...

the first error causing the second

if he was not in the same stable it would be another thing
But this had been addressed and a "new" rule was put in place saying "you can not move under braking" if it is going to apply to Max it has to apply to everyone else, but then I biased :)

Channel 4 have shut down. No after race stuff, no press conference. Nothing. Shite.

must admit C4 coverage had the best next upcoming show screen splash in a while

"humans will start following coverage of the Mexican grand prix"

"I have a message for Charlie Whiting"

Drivers are going to be ribbing him about that for years. Absolute classic moment. One of those F1 moments you'll never forget.

Vettel might be in trouble with the FIA. Jean Todt was watching and is apparently not happy.
Jean Todt: the invisible man.

Message to Jean Todt: Fuck off. Seriously, fuck off.

:)

In other news, aren't we all proud to have given the world the universal language for telling people to fuck off.

Just had a look at the long range weather-forecast for Sao Paulo in two weeks say cloudy and some rain, that could be good for Lewis

Our big BBQ weekend and I'm 100% sure we will not get rain here :)

In the UK, a long range forecast covers the few minutes until the end of the forecast. Thereafter, who knows?

For Sao paulo it is speculative but for here it 100%, it only rains in May June and July during the day here, we do get rain at other times but only later at night :)

Ross Brawn to succeed Bernie Ecclestone apparently.

In fairness to Bernie, he was very helpful in the campaign for greater racing safety, along with Sir Jackie Stewart, Professor Sid Watkins (RIP) and many others. Ecclestone managed Stewart Lewis-Evans (who died horrifically after a shunt in the 1958 Moroccan GP after crashing his Vanwall) and Jochen Rindt (who died at the 1970 Italian GP and is, mercifully, the sport's only posthumous F1 champion). Ecclestone got behind the drive for greater safety and increased medical support at races and his contribution to that is often overlooked.

I think it is an easy headline to say something like "Ross Brawn to replace Bernie", but the fact of the matter is that no one individual will or could replace Bernie. The world has moved on and the days of one man (or woman) holding such control have gone. While Bernie is seen to have total control of all things F1 in the real world that isn't the case. At F1 HQ there are many staff, some looking at the legal side of things some looking at the commercial side of things etc.

Clearly no-one has the same power to make deals on a handshake and in the future no-one will, no-one has such a wide understanding of the deals, contract and commercial details, but Bernie loves this mythology that surrounds him and plays up to it, but things have change behind the scenes at F1 over the last few years and will never be the same as they were say 10 years ago. Compliance and governance now have a massive influence in what goes on in F1 and the "good old days" are just that, the good old days :)

With many races now subsidized by governments, local, state and national (all but the British GP I believe and Monaco who don't pay anything), things can't be done in smoke filled back rooms.

It will be a very sad day when Bernie turns off the ignition, but when he does the wheels will keep turning.

The good news is that Sir Frank is out of hospital and back at home recovering well acording to reports

Some rumors around Maranello

Above I said I thought that Sauber would be crazy to use the 2016 Ferrari power-unit next season, but maybe they are not crazy if the rumors about the 2017 power-unit are true. They could also account for what seem a great deal of frustration on the part of Mr Vettel and others at the Ferrari team. The rumor is two fold, firstly, that quite a number of engineering staff have indicated too the team that they want to leave at the end of the season and those who follow the F1 press will have noticed a number of stories in the last two days from well placed individuals speculating on Vettels future at Ferrari after 2017.

The second rumor is that the teams new power-unit is very much down on horsepower and efforts to boost the horsepower have ended in serious mechanical failures, something I'm sure Sauber as a customer team would be aware of and could be the reason they have decided to concentrate in 2017 on aerodynamics in the hope that Ferrari can sort-out the problems for 2018, again this is something that Vettel will be well aware of.

Clearly something is amiss at Maranello, this is plan to see by anyone who has followed F1 this season and for a 4 times world champion to breakdown in the manor that Vettel did last weekend I believe is a clear indication that the problems within the team are deep seated. Word in the Italian press is that it isn't only Maurizio Arrivabene who is under massive pressure for the team to succeed but that CEO Sergio Marchionne could well be pushed out by shareholder because of the teams poor performance this season. For sure something has to give which could mean that 2017 will be a rebuilding exercise for Ferrari making Vettels chances of another world championship very unlikely.

The drivers merry-go-round
With the announcement from Williams that Lance Stroll will be driving alongside Valtteri Bottas next season there are 6 seats still available. I think we will see Ocon at Force India and that Nasr will go to Renault (but only on a 1 year contract) with a view to taking Bottas's seat at Williams for 2018. I have a feeling that Haas will replace Gutierrez with K-mag leaving only 3 seats, 1 at sauber and two at Manor. Could Esteban Gutierrez return to Sauber and Pascal Wehrlein and Jolyon Palmer end up at Manor, it would be a very neat solution :)

New look for 2017 cars
I can't remember if we have had a side by side comparason of the 2016 and 2017 cars yet on this thread (and I can't be arsed to go back and look).

The changes are as follows,
The front; the cars will get a longer nose and a wider front wing. Behind the front wheels, the barge boards will get significantly larger. The side pods, meanwhile, will be pushed out nearly eight inches.

The rear; the new wing will be both wider and lower, while the diffuser grows two inches in height and width. The tires will be wider 2.4 inches in front, 3.1 inches in the rear.

It is thought by some (a little optimistically in my view) that the new design will shave 5 seconds a lap of this years lap times :hmm:

Esteban Ocon to drive for Force India in 2017
As a Mercedes driver he is staying with a Mercedes powered team rather than going to Renault, he will replace Nico Hulkenberg, he tested for the team last year. There were rumors about Felipe Nasr driving for the team but his major sponsor Banco do Brasil had made public statements in Brazil saying they didn't want their brand associated with Vijay Mallya who is wanted in India and his partner Subrata Roy who is in jail in India. [Yes I see the irony in a publicly owned bank in Brazil making such a statement having itself been convicted of corruption, fraud and money-laundering ]

The Trump effect on F1

Sergio Perez has dumped a sponsor after they tweeted about the Trump victory in the US elections. The sunglasses company Hawkers made a joke in Spanish on Twitter, translated it reads "Mexicans, put these glasses on so people don't see your swelling [or possibly crying] eyes when the wall is being built in the morning". Perez didn't think it was funny and tweeted "What a bad comment. Today I finish my relationship with Hawkers MX. I will never let anyone mock my country".

Jaguar Land Rover pullout of Silverstone deal
The word from within the British Racing Drivers’ Club is that the hoped-for deal with Jaguar Land Rover is no longer an option, as the talks were terminated late last week. This is a blow for the BRDC board which was hoping to finalise the terms as it would have meant the BRDC would retain ownership of Silverstone Circuits Ltd. Unfortunately, it was not possible for any solution to be found between the two parties based on their different demands. A second bid, from Ginetta owner Lawrence Tomlinson, was also withdrawn a few days ago and so it looked as though the only bidder left standing was Jonathan Palmer’s Motor Sport Vision. However, it appears that there is another unidentified bidder which has emerged, the identity of which is currently unknown. The only hint is that this is an overseas investor with a long record of investing in the UK. The board has now decided to grant exclusivity to negotiate with this unidentified party, with the MSV bid being held in reserve. If these negotiations seem to be heading in the right direction, the board will call an Extraordinary General Meeting to discuss whether to go ahead.

Re Trump Effect ^^

It never ceases to amaze me how crass and unthinking individuals at companies can be.

I've spent the last few years helping organisations with social media, and the overwhelming problem is controlling the fuckwittery of muppets who shoot from the lip. Whenever a big element of your digital strategy involves a "Roll-back" section, you know you're a hostage to fortune. There are only so many times you can claim your account was hacked.

:D

Its good to see so much support for Massa this weekend, he has had a bit of a hard time with F1 fans over the years, but that's because of Senna's mantel among Brazilians he is right up there with Edson Arantes do Nascimento.

Weather-forecast seems to show rain on and off from midday, but looking at different sites that ranges from light rain on both days to thunderstorms, the weather in Sao paulo is very unpredictable but could make things very interesting.

Good to see Max running so well, second in first practice, it would be great for the last race if Nico doesn't finish 1st or 2nd in Brazil :)
