F1 2016

That's the message they told him the engine mode to change to, I think the gear part of the message was OK as that part was a mechanical issue, but we will see

They couldn't tell Lewis what mode last race
It's a fuzzy rule and it's a bad rule, but if they have to have it, it should be consistently applied.

That said, it would be good if Nigel Mansell as the drivers' steward just said 'Let's not change the result for a technical rule.' Fine the team a few bob instead.

They really need to make the rule understandable, just saying "the driver must drive unaided", but then add "unless it is a mechanical issue" is subjective when it should be objective

Teds point was interesting and it wasn't the mode but telling him to drive through it, the press release should make it clear, I hope

Apparently the part of the message that contravened the rules was the bit where they they told him to "shift through it". A slam dunk penalty according to a lot of people.

I hope they decide before Ted's Notebook.

Good result for Force India, I thought: 6th and 7th.

Ricciardo: it was a boring race. I had no-one to play with.

:D

I'm surprised that telling him what mode to use is legal as they said from the pit-wall they couldn't tell Lewis that at a previous race

Exactly. No-one knows exactly what's not allowed, and it's not interpreted consistently even in the same team.

I found this on the F1 site, Charlie Whiting view

On the aim of the new radio guidelines…

“What we’re trying to do is to make sure the driver is driving the car on his own, that he’s not being told how to drive the car. Simple as that, really.”

On the possible penalties for breaching the guidelines…

“I think it would depend on the level of the breach. If it was a simple one, I think we would let them get away with a warning - at this stage, at least. If it were slightly more serious the stewards might consider a reprimand, but if they were to do something which really helped the driver do something he should be doing himself then I suspect a time penalty might be more appropriate.”

On how it can be decided if a team has used an (illegal) coded message…

“It can’t. Not clearly. I can’t tell you now how a coded message is going to... It depends entirely on what the message is and what the explanation is for that message. By putting down exactly what you can say, if you go outside of that it’s fairly obvious. I’ve had some very strange questions about ‘the birds are flying high in the sky today’ and stuff like that. I’d just say it’s not on the list. Seriously, I think that even by using some of these things on the list there is probably a way of getting a message across which we weren't intending them to, but we’ll have to deal with that on a case-by-case basis.”

Wow Red Bull just 9 points behind Ferrari, come back Ross we need someone to challenge Mercedes, that's challenge not beat while Lewis is there ;)

Two people according to google but i don't know either of them, someone called Wiz and someone called Rocky

If pilots can fly airliners without asking for help then car drivers should be able to too. Perhaps they need better information displays in their cockpits to let them know what is going on with the car, I know some have screens on their steering wheels already. Then they need to spend more time training and less time being playboys and shit.

Nonsense.

you have heard of air traffic controllers right

:hmm:

aye that the bit that broke the rule

but they were pretty quick to throw out the setting advice

compared to the Lewis 11 laps of Baku fiddling with switches

:)
