F1 2016

Bernie's message to the moaners; "If they don't want to drive they don't have to" Ecclestone said. "It's up to them. This is the circuit, if they don't like it then they can go home". "One of them, I think Nico Rosberg was complaining about the speed into the pitlane. So I said go and have a look and see if he's got brakes on the car. Because it's up to them to decide what speeds."

It also looks like Imola has a contract if Monza doesn't sort itself out, "We need to rely little bit on the national sporting authorities in the country to support, so if it doesn't happen in Monza and they want to support it in Imola, then we'll be in Imola".

Looks like a good track for some over-taking and may be a safety car or two
There's some long fast over-taking feeding into several serious turns with small direct-ahead run-off zones.

I foresee a fair few overtaking attempts followed fairly quickly by some Pampers moments.

But there's some nice narrow, twisty stuff around the castle.

The (virtual) safety car is a certainty. At least a couple, I'd say. The question is how many red flags. Looking at how practice panned out, I'd go with a couple. When the cars hit the spongey barriers, they seem to throw their parts all over the track, as if in embarrassment.

Perez to Ferrari, I can't see it. Is he really that good, personally I don't think so.
No, he ain't.

He had a shot at a top drive at McLaren and wasn't up to it.

Ferrari want a real wunderkind. Someone young (ish) with outstanding driving skills. They can afford and the brand will attract the very, very best.

Of the youngsters available I think Sainz would be a good fit

Edit maybe Bottas or Grosjean but Sainz would be good to see

Yup.

I think he was referring to TR, rather than RB. He's "very happy" with Danny Ric and the Wunderkind.

He must be looking over the fence into TR.
With Red Bull drivers in place until at least 2018 he would be committed to Toro Rosso, maybe they have offered him a red bull drive after that, I'd have thought if he had good management there would be a "top team" clause. I think if Ferrari want him they'd buy-out his contract.

Not sure there is anyone (at the moment) who'd be a better fit, I'd guess any extension would only be for 1 year

Edit, I guess any change at the top management of Ferrari could change things with Kimi

I'll be mildly disappointed if he re-signs
I'd be interested to know how the option is bedded into his contract.

is it just one side who can exercise? Can Sainz decline an extension? Can he contractually jump to another team and if so does money change hands?

I think the team would have the option, as the employer (top drivers may also have it written into their contract, didn't Ferrari have to pay off Alonso to get out of a contract extension). I'm sure most drivers will have a "top team clause" and may be something that allows them to buy themselves out of any extension.

I'd want that in any contract if I was a driver manager

That's why he is world champion :) May be he'll have to start the race with those flat spotted tyres

Maybe he'll get to change them for safety reasons

Loads of empty balcony's around the track, I have a feeling that will change over the years when the locals realize how much they can rent them for
