F1 2016

yes I think I remember getting bored of seeing him win, similar with Vettel a few years ago.
First half of todays race was great shame about Lewis' presh problem denying us a battle with Rosberg.
2004 Schumacher won total if 13 as did Vettel in 2013 but not consecutive

I meant to mention that yesterday when it came up, why did Mercedes decide to change half the mechanics from one side of the garage to the other? That must have been unsettling for both drivers

How long before Verstappen takes over from Kyvat I wonder?
Listening to the Sky interview with Christian, I'd say Kvyat has a few more races to sort out some results.

Kravitz reminded Christian, referring to Vettel: "Who was it used to be called the 'crash kid'?"

Honestly, we have these collisions all the time. And sod's law says it's the same people involved. I doubt Red Bull as a team care too much - apart from Danny R being taken out as well - if the results are good. If they let Kvyat go, it won't be because of the collisions.

Toto said they swap techs around for personal development reasons. Some changes are promotions. They also swap them around so that one side of the garage isn't having all the fun. They want the team's mechanics to feel the joy and the pain.

ETA: "personnel" -

Lewis seems to have lost out, but he can't say that, they still have the same chief race engineers, so I guess that's a good thing for Lewis, but the others ???????

I guess it depends what the specific duties are.

But if you're the expert on hydraulic, left-hand, rear bollock-polishers, it doesn't matter if you're on a car with 44 on the lid or the number 6.

I could do with a bollock-polisher if their letting one go, I'd retrain them to be a beer assistant ;)

I'm being given the hurry-up by our non-F1 fan guests, they want to go to the bar, they just don't understand why we can't go yet :mad:

I told them to go and I'll catch them up and my old lady kicked me

Well I liked the C4 highlights show, I prefer just to see the highlights, i.e. the bits we have to sit through the rest to see!

When does it appear on all4? Does anyone know? I presume they've got some sort of deal with Sky that means they don't put it online until late. Bring back iPlayer:mad::mad:

the best thing about that race was vettel totally losing his shit on team radio

team radio is useless now it's so limited, hope they bring it back properly, I miss it.

some fiiiiine shots of rosberg's arse

Max Verstappen replaces Daniil Kvyat at Red Bull for rest of season

Max Verstappen replaces Daniil Kvyat at Red Bull for rest of season
I don't think this decision has anything at all to do with Kvyat crashing into Vettel and everything to do with Red Bull wanting to ensure Max stays off the drivers market. He is out of contract with Toro Rosso at the end of the season and this could keep him in the Red Bull stable.

It is clear that other teams were looking to sign him when he was out of contract but now he is highly likely to have to sign a new contract that could tie him to Red Bull for 3 more seasons.

Yeah, the recent crashes just give them a convenient excuse...

Are the 2017 rules really sorted, maybe not
It seems that things may not have yet been resolved for the 2017 rules as a number of teams are now starting to complain about the increase in the fuel limit, up from 100KGs too 105KGs. It seems that Mercedes and their works teams, Williams, Force India and Manor along with Toro Rosso (Ferrari powered) are now raising concerns. They are arguing "that the whole world is looking to reduce emissions" and that when the 1.6-litre V6 turbo hybrids were introduced, the aim was to improve road relevance, increase efficiency and reduce emissions.

This is not the only issue, Ron Dennis sounds extremely pissed off with the decision that teams will have to supply customer teams with power-units under the new FIA rules. As a reaction to the Red Bull saga of late 2015, a new rule has been published for 2017 whereby the FIA has the power to enforce deals between the engine manufacturers and teams struggling to secure a customer contract, the new rule reads "each manufacturer must, if called upon to do so by the FIA, supply at least three teams".

But Ron says this new rule clashes with his teams exclusive contract with Honda and that he will sue the FIA if they try to force Honda to supply any other team. He is reported to have told Red Bull's Christian Horner at the recent strategy group meeting: "You will never get an engine from Honda. Rather, I would sue the FIA over the new rule". McLaren has since played down these reports. Another new rule for 2017 appears to be that customer teams will not be allowed to make "deceptive, misleading, disparaging or negative comments" about their engine suppliers, that would be the Red Bull clause I guess :)

Sauber still can't pay the team
The Sauber Formula 1 team has failed to pay its staff salaries on time for the third successive month. Cashflow problems meant February and March salaries were paid around a week late. The situation has repeated itself for the month of April but Sauber hopes a solution will be found to ensure all employees are paid.

A London Grand Prix by next year? Bernie thinks so.

Formula 1 racing could be coming to central London next year
This old chestnut :)

It is just Bernie bluster and aimed at the BRDC and Silverstone. There is a break clause in the FOM contract with Silverstone that allows both sides to walk away from the deal after 10 years of the 17 year deal. While the break clause doesn't come into force until 2019 both sides need to give a commitment to continue or decide to activate the break clause a number of years in advance, so they have plenty of time to make alternative arrangements.

Silverstone has a cheep deal at around 23 million for the hosting fee, while most other tracks pay in excess of 40 million some as much as 70 million. As has been mentioned before on this thread, Silverstone is up for sale to the Land-rover/Jaguar group and I'm sure FOM want assurances that this deal will not cause the BRDC to pull out of the current contact after 10 years.

Also the teams all want a British GP as it is considered a home race for many of them and there isn't really another circuit available at the moment without a lot of investment to improve facilities and that is willing to pay the hosting fee.

Holding a race in London wouldn't be easy, there would be loads of objections from people living near the circuit and who would pay for it? While there has been a change in the law allow local authorities to close roads in order to host motor races, in central London rich people would not want the disruption and kick up a massive fuss, even legal actions which could take years to sort-out. The government has made it very clear many times that it is not prepared to put any money into F1, may be the new Mayor would chip-in if there was loads of private money also being pledged, but I think that unlikely.

Were they to chose somewhere like Hyde Park and stay off public roads then maybe it would have a chance, but again there is the big question of who would pay the cost, with hosting fees and other expenses, it is likely to cost anything from 50 to 80 million. Also what would be the gain for London? It is already the top city destination for tourist with over 17.5 million a year and apparently Hotel occupancy rates are at an all time high, I don't see the benefit.

I'd love to see a street race around London I just don't think it will happen.

The London street race is a rubbish idea that will never happen.

True. Suggesting a Grand Prix on London's streets would be like having the first Le Mans 24 Hours in this day and age. Le Mans' longevity is in part due to its, erm, longevity, its having been started in 1923 when it wasn't seen as a fundamentally barmy notion. If you suggested such an event be started on public roads in a major city today, it would never be allowed.

A street race in London would be hugely disruptive - way beyond any value to the city.

Besides nasty, noisy, fumy cars are satanic evils to the stuffed shirts of correctness who run UK cities these days.

London's whole clean-air-congestion-charge ethos is better suited to Formula E.

Saw a clip from the drivers press conference yesterday on the F1 Show. Daniil Kvyat was asked how he found out. He looked like he was about to burst into tears!

good morning :)
I see after just a couple of bad races for Lewis the press are talking about him taking a year off in 2017

I foresee drivers adding a new clause to their contracts regarding their chief engineer and number 1 mechanic being changed :)
