England vs Italy (Group D) Saturday 14th June 2014

Sterling was shit in the 2nd half when he kept finding himself on the right of the italian penalty box. he is much better suited in the middle.

unlucky terry, very close on the prediction
I put another £1 on Immobile to score first and Italy to win 2-1, luckily he came on after goals had been scored so I get money back as a single on correct score .. another tenner in my pocket to spend on bets today :D

Coming back late to this. Here are some things:

My local was great fun last night, everyone had been on the sauce all day and was absolutely leathered
ShiftyBagLady - no it's not rugby and I'm sorry if you find football less interesting than a load of fatties lying in a heap with a ball somewhere underneath them. Ireland aren't playing at all because they're shite. Hope this helps.
I support strung out
Not sure about all this club based viewing of the England team, especially by Liverpool fans
The Bristol Rovers player on the bench blates should have been playing and would have won us the game inside the first ten minutes
I enjoyed that, it was fun and we had a go. Good stuff.
This group could get very interesting indeed

:)

Good performance apart from Baines at the end of the day. Barkley did ok as a sun but Lallana is a lightweight at this level and Wilshire looked poor. Sterling was excellent in the middle far better than a Rooney in physical decline.

What concerns me is Italy-Uruguay, can see a scenario if Uruguay have nothing to lose where they play to put Costa Rica through at our expense, many Italian surnames in that Uruguay team.

I watched it a few hours ago, couldn't be arsed to stay awake or get up at Burma bonkers o'clock. I found it 'not the same' but not too bad and I have sufficient metal energy to enjoy the day. I'll watch the next one in England, with me good old dad :)

As you were.

Pirlo made more passes on his own than the entire England midfield last night, that and the Italian's coolness under pressure was the big difference. I was impressed by the youngsters playing for England but the gulf in class and fitness levels showed towards the end. The young lions were lying all over the place with cramp while the 35 year old Pirlo was still strutting his stuff.

Rooney in physical decline.
it's interesting to compare him to ronaldo. ronaldo is 8 months older but looks about 8 years younger! both contemporaries, not a lot between them for a few seasons at united. now look at the difference. one of them looks after himself while the other seems to like the fags, booze and pies a bit too much.

And elderly hookers. Don't forget the elderly hookers.

Pirlo is class. But i dont think there was a gulf between england and italy. Italy play a possession game based on slow build ups looking for an opening, englands game is (now) based on quick pacy counterattacking becasue they have the players to do that - so Italy have a lot more possesion (most of it going through pirlo), but england had more chances on goal.
England are shit at possession football - when england have been good its based on pacy, direct attacking (something which sven and capello never seemed to realise).

god damn missed most of the game cos i was throwing up ( thanks local for giving me perfectly timed food poisoning  )

just watched the highlights, and even tho we lost we did show promise...

and this is typical England for you.

oh and i got the score right, just the wrong way round :(

I thought England played a good game, better than most of us were expecting anyway. Lots of attempts on goal; it'd be nice if more of them had a chance of going in. Italy had a lot of shots on goal too but Hart and the defence actually had to put effort into saving them whereas most of England's simply missed. Still, all helps it be a more interesting game to watch.

The two times England previously lost their opening group game they made it to the knockout stages.
1986 - lost to Portugal, went through after a draw with Morocco and a win against Poland
What was the other?
