Yes! It’ll stop the election spilling on to other politics threads, and leave a historical archive for future Urbanites to learn about what we went through!
“Those poor sods, look at their optimism, their belief there would be any kind of clear blue water between the outgoing and incoming government. Pitiful really, they weren’t to know.”

The 9/11 thread being the best example of this, though I concede this won't have quite the same magnitude.

On the one hand yes, but then again also no.

So, in summary, fuck it.
Yeah, I'm predictably ambivalent on this one.

I did raise the spectre of an election forumb elsewhere, but it was mildly tongue-in-cheek as, on a very superficial note, I do simply like having 'special' forums for certain topics (like Christmas, sports tournaments, etc).

I can see the argument, though, that too many specialized forums can just clog things up themselves, and that it might seem needless if there aren't going to be that many threads anyway.

That said... I'd just point out that there's already more than the megathread and bandwithz thread, and while megathreads are good for 'general' coverage, they can also be hard to keep up with, while anything even remotely niche can immediately be lost, or simply never develop in the first place.

And let's be honest, there's plenty of opportunity for things to get fucking niche in an election.

It'd be nice to have one, but I'm not gonna campaign hard for one, or be that put out if we don't have one.

Either way, do appreciate that it's at least up for discussion, though.

To give a broader answer to my previous, we're not VoteUK, a specialist forum with 650 separate threads for each constituency, and nor should we be asking for that. I think general could be suitable enough but if there are developments that start to : take over' a dedicated space is better suited (many big names have their own 'times up' threads which can be bumped if they need to after all!)

Siphoning off election threads to a dedicated space at least allows those with no interest to continue avoiding the discussions , and might be good management in avoiding trolls who may not notice the move has happened.

Yes, definitely need a new forum for the life of the tournament and then post a thread for each match.

Being as I usually browse Urban using the New Posts pages it won't make any difference to me if there is a sub forum or not. The posts will be listed whichever forum they are posted to.

does a yes / don't care coalition get the support of the house?

:p

It’s a shaky coalition and anyway the editor has quite obviously only allowed this referendum in the expectation that the status quo will prevail, so if yes prevails he’ll likely flounce like Cameron before he has to implement it and go off to work for Lex Greensill, leaving the boards to be run by diehard new subforumist incompetents.

For the record, I would have been quite happy to launch a new forum if enough people wanted it. But they clearly didn't, so we're all going to be singing "Down Down."
