I'll try Am over C when I go home. I didn't know you can use a minor scale over a major chord progression. I don't play lead though, in my defence.

I can't class my politics. They don't fit into a neat little box. I guess you could have called me tree hugging pink wristed leftopian wannabe a few years ago but the constant infighting within the left (typified on various threads here) has put me right off.

I haven't crossed to the dark side but I'm disillusioned with the so-called "left".

when Danny talks of playing Am over a C major position he fails to realise that his blind adherence to the pentatonic scale means that he's actually playing C Major, admittedly with some fundamental notes missing, but C is still the root of his position

Social Democrat ... that is to say I believe society as a whole should collectively choose to look after the vulnerable.

I'm an Aeolian-Dorianist.

It's for country rockers

bollocks, your position is old-fashioned Ionian-Aeolian a fundamentally reformist tradition

now were you take consider the harmonic minor of A, or even, if you were brave enough, the melodic, whilst risking all the discord that that may entail then you might be considered radical

as it it you simply follow the first, fourth and fifth position with the occasional nod to elements of the Aeolian tradition but without truly ever taking on board its key elements

essentially you are status quo

personally my feeling is that until we explore a fully chromatic system then we will remain in the political wilderness anyway

It's my view, comrade, that chromaticism is something that can be explored as superstructure to the Aeolian-Dorian base.
