That's not a very useful poll then.

It depends what you want from it. I wanted to see how people defined themselves and the contradictions and commonalities with in the set of labels I selected. So although a minority of respondents where going to post explaining their choice it would be enough to build up a picture of how people with similar labels can have radically different politics, and vice versa.

The only way it could have been improved is with more options, conservative for one.

Agree with you. Although my voting intention is Tory I don't consider myself a party clone. My views are different from the Thatcherites for example but I share some views with some Old Labour people.

yeah noticed the lack of a Conservative (small and large c) option.

I dunno, I just think it's fairly pointless knowing that 6 people describe themselves as libertarian, when there are 2 differing and opposed definitions.

That translated as martial law for troublesome poor areas last time you spoke about it :D

IIRC that was more about letting decent locals vote for a robust law enforcement presence if they needed it and if areas had degenerated into war zones. A sort of community recovery aided by a big stick.

Anyway due to other stuff going on my politics have mellowed somewhat.

Not if it encourages people to discuss it, in which I think we can agree it has so far been partially successful.

To be honest it seems the problem is not so much the poll, but the inability of some people to recognise the complex nature of self defined political labels and how that impacts on wider social currents.:p;)

A new girlfriend then? *which way will Zachor turn now?*

Nah I'm happy with my wife thank you very much. It's thinking about procreation and babies that has mellowed me somewhat.

FYI it looks like Mrs Zachor and I will be supporting two different parties at the next election. Her Labour and me Tory. I did agree not to put a VOTE TORY poster in the front window though for the same of domestic peace.

Is that different from Socialist or does the Republican for you indicate more nationalist, if not stagist outlook?

More nationalist than anything else. I admire the INLA pre-1990. They had the right idea and the proper millitancy.

National Liberation before Social Revolution?

How would you define the IRSP's politics?
I had the perspective that withstanding the national question, they had contradictory analysis between council communism and orthordox CPer outlook, but was told recentely they were heavily influenced by American Maoists for instance Workers World.

Penny for your thoughts!

In my view as soon as you allow your politics to be dominated by an "ism" you have lost it. My politics are a contradictory mess held together by pragmatism and a sort of well meaning liberalism, but first and foremost they are mine and only allowed contact with any "isms" after they have solidified into fairly clear opinions.

Politics as a teenage magazine multiple choice questionnaire, how very post-modern;)
You gotta have choice, cos "you're worth it"
Each individual on his or her own self important little stitched together political island made to measure for their prejudices and experience limitations. Each little island slowly sinking beneath the waves.......:p

True there needs to be a new option so your view is represented in the poll.

Right-wing Green (and Liberal) as in I beleiv there is a technical solution to our problems rather we hav to keep retreating and reducing comsumption(that's going to be very popular:rolleyes:) sloar panels, wind turbines, Hydrogen Fuel cells that's for me.:D

i think this poll is silly but the discussion has been superb.

can someone do a poll of favourite urban75 posters please?

i vote smokedout.

I picked "Left Wing" as it's vague and broad, which is how i'd describe my politics currently.
