Crap, unreliable parcel delivery/courier companies - feel free to vent here

Thompson lied through his teeth about this. It went on in the run up to Christmas and it continues now, including in my workplace as of yesterday. Managers will give verbal instructions to prioritise packets - especially tracked items - but normally refuse to put anything in writing. Given that there are examples of this happening across the UK, it points to it being a systematic top down approach.

Thompson also lied about Personal Dgital Assistants (handheld pdas) being used to monitor and call for speed ups in work rates. Unfortunately for him he has tweeted about this practice in the past, so the evidence is out there. Also Unfortunately for him he has a bit of visible twitch or tic when he's lying; it got worse as his appearance before the select committee went on.

Pointing out the dishonesty of the Royal Mail CEO isn't a matter of poking fun at him. The point is how on earth can our union leadership be expected to negotiate in good faith with such a proven and brazen liar. Of what worth is an agreement with someone who is willing to say that black is white? It all sounds horribly familiar, given our recent political history, but it's worth saying nonetheless.

Diatribe over - Louis MacNeice
Thanks for that Louis MacNeice - really informative and infuriating.

The letter post where we are is so bad - one to two deliveries a week - that I can honestly say we haven't noticed the strikes (obviously know about them, and strongly support them, from being on here etc.).

It's been this bad since at least 2020. My OH chats to the posties sometimes and gets the real story. Yes, we're being lied to by the Royal Mail management and taken for idiots.

Agreed.

The guy, before he retired, that was our postie used to comment on the unreal demands of the local / area management. Eventually he had had enough and took the next available package. That was a few years ago/

These days, even without strike action the local post is unreliable and tbh has been bad since before covid.
I think that part of the problem is that the "walk" sorting is not done in the local office, but almost 25 miles away, and not always by whoever is going to be doing the "walk" ...

As a result, we are getting deliveries only twice a week, and even more of our neighbour's post.
Another problem of sorts is that sometimes stuff for the workshop comes here, and viciverki.

{sometimes, in the same way, one lad at work gets his stuff dropped off with the workshop post - which is OK, I suppose, but he doesn't work everyday !}

Our walk sorting is done at the local office up the road. Our old postie told my OH that the managers get a bonus for saving money on temp staff (this was when Covid was having more of an effect, so about 2020). Bet Mr Royal Mail wouldn't admit to that either.

Getting Christmas cards as late as 16 January is annoying (no way is this because of the strikes) but I feel for those waiting for hospital appointments etc. as the NHS still use snail mail. It really is snail mail now!

I need to order some new trainers. I've researched exhaustively and found a decent price at Sportsshoes.com. But they use Evri. I know Evri won't deliver to my house, there is just no point even entertaining the idea. But there's an option to send it to an Evri Parcel Shop, and there's an shop that does Evri five mins walk away, so that seems ok...

But when I put my postcode in the Evri pop up insists there are no shops. And the same no matter how many postcodes I put in from locations all around the country. Same in multiple browsers. Why can't anything related to Evri work properly?

Because...Evri. If it worked, it wouldn't be Evri.

My neighbour has a well-covered area for bins etc, conveniently masked by his car.
Yodel leave his 4 foot package leaning against my exposed front door without knocking or ringing the bell.

It's bone dry so I'm guessing it arrived some time between 08.45 and 09.30 this morning (Sunday).
I only noticed it because I habitually go downstairs to check the meter and peer outside...
In their defence I wear headphones, but not at full blast...

EVRI, being nothing if not consistent...

It gets better, they've also stuck a note through the door (which I only got today for reasons to do with where I live) with just a phone number scrawled in the collection point name/address bit, and a box ticked saying to collect "today (ie. yesterday) after 18:00 (the collection point in the email is closed by then)"

I'll try that email if I don't have any luck at the place in town today, ta.

Why do some courier services make it so difficult to track your deliveries? I had a delivery via DX (I think) a couple of weeks ago and they wanted me to download their app just to see what's going on. I'm expecting a delivery from UPS today and they want me to enrol in 'UPS My Choice' to get detailed tracking! I don't want to sign up for services or download apps for every courier company. I just want to know when my bloody parcels are expected to arrive!

Also, Whistl have had another parcel at their depot for over a week now. Just deliver the damn thing!

I usually have no complaints with Royal Mail, but there are three things I know went out last week and I haven't received anything at all this week so far...

If you get it working, whatever you do, before you press the order button, run down to the "Evri Parcel Shop" and speak to someone who works there and actually insure they are still an "Evri Parcel Shop", because you can't change it after it's been dispatched and it will sit in the system for weeks before eventually you're just refunded.

I've never had a problem with DPD before, and in fact this problem was caused by the sender, but I am angry with DPD being so fucking inflexible in trying to resolve it, and thus making life easier for all parties.

The idiot sender didn't give them my details, so I never received the usual text confirming a one hour delivery window, and they tried to deliver on Friday when I was out, so 12 heavy boxes are sitting in their local depot ready to go out on a van today, not to me, but to a local Co-op store that's one of their pick-up points.

It's just impossible to park near the store during the daytime and that store has no rear service road, making it hard for their driver to deliver 12 bloody heavy boxes, and also a pain in the arse for both the Co-op and me, I am sure the delivery driver would much rather back onto my drive and we can stick them straight in the garage instead of the madness involved in dropping off at the Co-op, but DPD customer services say there's no way to re-arrange delivery now.

I asked if I could speak to the depot direct, as this simple request could seriously help their poor driver, but no, they can't transfer me nor give me their direct number, which google is also holding back on, it's a right pain in the arse.
This one is about security. How do they know you're the end customer, if they've never had your details? They don't.
You said it yourself that the shipper messed up. They need to sort it out with DPD to get it all delivered to your house.

They didn't give DPD my details for the usual text message, but they had my address and as I said they tried to deliver when I was out, all I was asking was for them to deliver to my address, the address they had from the sender, so nothing to do with security.

The driver wouldn't have know you didn't get the text so if you are saying that he has already tried to deliver to you and you weren't in - he would have been mega pissed off, because he'd have 12 boxes in his way for the rest of his route.

It's not your fault - you didn't get the text. But the driver doesn't know it. And even if he did, he would say that it's not his fault the shipper screwed up.

Believe me it would have been "The fucking twat!!! Twat!!!! Twat!!! (or even worse language) 12 boxes and they couldn't be bothered to stop in for them like I've got nothing better to do than climb around 12 boxes to get at the rest of this fucking shit!!!!"

And the driver is paid by the drop if he isn't a DPD employee, so he really didn't want to deliver your 12 boxes on his van in the first place. So if they can dump it down the Co-op they'll dump it down the Co-Op!!!

I've worked for DPD in the past and that kind of thing sends drivers bonkers it's one of our worst nightmares. A massive consignment and the bastards aren't in!!!!

Management would get such an earbending over that, they wouldn't be in a hurry to send another driver around with the boxes again.

DPD used to love me, because I used to do a collections route and on the way back into a certain town, I would swing by the depot and ask them if there was anything that needed bringing into town because there was a one hour gap in my schedule in which I would be bored. So they would give orders like yours to deliver in town, rather than me sat there bored for over an hour.

That's your problem. You haven't got a driver that can be bothered to swing by the depot and deliver your shite, rather than sit outside playing games on their tablet killing time until the next pickup!

Do you struggle with reading?

It would have been A LOT easier for the driver to have dropped off at my place.

You're forgetting the compartmentalised nature of it all

The driver who has to deliver to the co-op has to deliver there anyway and he knows he has to deliver there anyway knows that he will 100% get it delivered there because they will be open.

The driver who's route you fall under, has already tried you once. He doesn't want to try you again.

Two different drivers.

And even if they were the same, he knows he will get rid of the pkgs at the coop.

I'm not saying it's right. I'm just giving you an insight to their mindset.

Ordered a poster from a local shop - I would have collected it but it actually shut to high street sales 2 weeks beforehand but is still trading online.

Evri had it last Monday. Emailed me to say so. I assumed delivery sometime this week. No more emails. It now transpire the poster is on the way back to the shop. I am very confused.

Have you tried the tracking number in the app? I don't bother with the emails, they don't always come through.

Venting here, two companies:

Last weekend: Interflora International (Dublin) failed to follow delivery instructions to leave with neighbour if not in. Result, missed my cousin's birthday.

Today: paid for named day delivery. Delivery instructions to leave with neighbour if not in. DPD emailed to say they'd attempted delivery and will be back tomorrow. Didn't follow instructions. Result, missed my uncle's 90th birthday.

Fucking DPD, I'm absolutely fucking fuming.

I've always found DPD very good, apart from once when the sender didn't give the correct delivery details, i.e. my phone number & e-mail, so I didn't get the alert about the delivery window and missed it.

DPD fucked up the other day and failed to deliver. As I'd paid for next day delivery, I contacted the retailer and to their credit they immediately refunded the delivery fee - they replied to my e-mail within ten minutes which is pretty impressive.
I've emailed the retailer using their provided customer service email address plus used the feedback link in the DPD email. Not heard back yet ...
