Buying a home and don't know how anything works

This seems like as good as thread as any. I was looking to move (kidding) and found detailed pages "about the neighbours". Is this a thing now?
Just standard demographic info you can get for any postcode isn’t it, probably drills down to SW17 1** level

Not the same , but I show council properties, and people often ask about the neighbours - I have to be diplomatic or the neighbours will have my head. But in the past I let a Housing Association place which had a suspected murderer upstairs - the police couldn't charge him for reasons I have long forgotten - he was eventually done in civil court and then the police/cps did him as well. We would only let the flat to young-ish men - went first time - told the guy and he was fine about it .

I was expecting something along the lines of We've had a dispute with Geoff and Susan at number 43 because they didn't maintain their garden and so we had to trim their bushes. Giles at number 47 keeps himself to himself since Barbara died a couple of years ago. Simon and Kate moved into what used to be Edina's house, after she passed away. Parking was a bit of a nightmare for a while because they got the builders in to renovate and put a glass 'family room' extension on the back, so there were skips and delivery trucks and building noise for months. It's quietened down now, except for in the school holidays when their kids are jumping up and down on their trampoline and screeching and I can't read my paper and drink my G&T in peace due to the frightful noise. Anna across the road is a retired music teacher, we can sometimes hear her playing the piano, which is lovely.

Instead it was bland data stuff.

This is wonderful writing 👍😄

Our buyers have been at the house again today ‘looking at the garden’… still no exchange date, but at least we’ve sent all our signed sale contract back to the solicitor and he’s sent it on to the buyers asking for a date - just before he goes on holiday for 10 days… we luckily got a friend to take the contracts back to the uk and post them from there. I’ve seen a post in a FB group I’m in where they’d couriered their docs back and they’ve been stuck in customs in Paris and the sale is on the verge of falling through!

Ours has all gone through thank you equationgirl. On Friday. We've moved some small stuff in, but taking our time as children are NNT, I have 2 days to finish all my paperwork for current job, we go on holiday this week too, so its all a bit much at the same time. We'll move properly when we get back. And then to sort our current house to sell.

I didn't announce it here because I'm just very overwhelmed at the moment and youngest is very anxious, so therefore am I, but she's coming round to it. They've just gone to Ikea to buy a new desk.

That's all great to hear Red Cat, taking things at your own pace is the only way to do it. Hopefully choosing a new desk with your youngest.

Hope the IKEA trip gives her a bit of inspiration/excitement for it Red Cat
Also, most of all, that being free of the awful neighbours makes a huge difference once you're in.
I think you feel that sort of stuff physically, as well as mentally - so I really hope the massive weight lifted from you all, of having that constant, background tension in what should be your safe place, will bring you all some proper breathing space and that that compensates for the difficulties involved in the change, itself, iykwim.

I had asked for completion on 15/07 (which, for various reasons should have been absolutely, explicitly doable - albeit that that would have involved a couple of people lifting a fucking finger for a fucking change  ) so that I could complete works to the place, which are estimated to take 4-6 weeks, over the holidays, while I am off work - but we are still not in and I am so fucking fucked off now.
I agreed to doing the works myself because it was proposed as a way to speed up the process - but had I not agreed to it, the work would actually have been completed weeks ago :D so at least this further delay wouldn't have had such an ongoing impact once I return to work when I will now have to be dealing with organising various building works when I am back and knackered.

New suggested date for this coming Weds is also not possible now, which will mean it has to wait at least another week (can only happen on a Weds or Thurs).
I can't even finish packing or start to organise the work without any date so I am just spending the 'holiday' going completely fucking nuts instead.
The house has been sitting empty for five and a half months now.

God, I feel your rage just reading that.

We’ve just had a message from the estate agent saying they want to complete by the end of the month but questions have been with our lawyer since beginning of august and nit been responded to… we sent last questions back late July. Lawyer should be back from hols on Monday.. luckily we proactively booked to come back né sort the house out - I arrived yesterday - but no way we will be done by end of the month!

Turns out ‘looking at the garden’ was them quizzing the neighbours about a small bit of our garden that was an old closed road. It’s a historical thing from about 25 years ago and we declared it to the agents from the off and to their surveyor When he called
us mid survey.

Obvs agents clearly haven’t told them about it although we specifically told them to as we found out a week before exchange and it delayed us buying by 6’weeks.
Spoken to one neighbour who pointed out nth them that there’s now houses impeding them ever reopening the road.!aaaaaarrrrrrgggghhhhhhh!

The estate agents shouldn’t have let them look again in the first place. Also all this stuff should be being addressed by the solicitors. I’d be asking for an exchange date asap or you’ll be putting it back on the market.

The estate agents have been shit to be honest, I definitely wouldn’t recommend using them… the solicitor has an out office and had a pre out of office for a month before his holiday which their solicitor should have been aware of. So why are they calling me saying they can’t get hold of him…and telling me they want to complete by the end of the month when they’ve not even given an exchange date! Aaaarrrrggggghhhhhhh….

Bumped into next door neighbour this morning who’d spoken to the buyers a few times, even showed them inside his house. The lady buyer was nervous about walking home off Brixton Hill and the garden issue when they last spoke about 6 weeks ago and he reassured her nothing to worry about..

Sounds to me like they’ve been wobbling a lot and not pushing things through, but now they’ve made their minds up they want to move now!

Does your solicitor not have a partner who can handle the final bits n pieces?
There are out of office people to contact on his notice, no idea if they’ve tried. Given this happened on Wednesday night I decided to leave it till he’s back as we really don’t want to complete until 5th earliest and ideally a week later

Yeah so the brokers definitely sending defcon vexed to the solicitors on my side now so I'm hoping some movement will take place soon. I'll call the brokers Tuesday maybe, and attempt phoning solicitor Monday. These are the solicitors the broker works with so fuck knows what's gone wrong.

Me and wife very eager to move and mortgage offer expires end of September.

OMFG my head is about to explode. The questions they’ve sent are soooooooo stupid… I’m on the point of saying no exchange date this week and they can fuck off..
