Buying a home and don't know how anything works

JGTFK!

House is more or less as I remembered - second bedroom a lot smaller than I recalled.

First discoveries - they’d helpfully turned off the water and electric so turned them on. About to tackle the meter readings as well.

BT phone connection is in cupboard underneath the stairs which explains the snorting shelf

Sadly no cash or drugs left in this hidden safe in the airing cupboard

It pissed it down with rain as I’m just a few miles off the end of Dartmoor (Possible brown Willy effect) when I got here so the back garden flooded quickly :D

But it’s mine and I’m very happy :)

Thanks for letting the interwebs know where all your valuables will be :D :D

Seriously though, congrats on getting in!

I haven’t got any valuables luckily. So far so good.

Seem to be able to get hot water and have just worked out that the little hand sign on the boiler means “manual”

Their solicitors now have draft contracts from ours, searches happening this week, survey back with no major issues and bank survey next week although it’s a desk survey…

How long are UK (Lambeth) surveys taking roughly?
Can't speak for Lambeth but Croydon took three days back in February. (might be useless info but I was impressed)

If it's a desktop survey from the bank it should be PFQ (pretty quick)

I'm looking forward to the housewarming party next weekend followed by a walk over Haytor. 👍 Congrats. Be happy.

Mystery email with a letter asking me to return the signed and witnessed transfer from the solicitor this morning.

Phoned them, left a vm and emailed back. We’ve returned everything they’ve sent us so far.

Solicitor has her out of office on from 1st till 8th.

Broker is going to check with solicitors, thinks it might be a TR1 form but from what I can see online that’s mostly a buyer thing? Random.

The other news from broker is our sellers finally made an offer on a place and oh god I can’t imagine how horrific it is to be a part of an actual chain of sales so glad to be renting for that at least

1) both buyer and seller need to sign the TR1 form
2) if you're buying from them then you're still part of the chain, no?

1) Still its not something we've received. Annoying.
2) I guess but we're renting so we don't have to unpack that particular web quite as delicately as if we already owned a place.
