Big name brands and companies on the verge of collapse

On the plus side the families of staff at Clinton can send their loved one a sadface text message rather than forking out three quid on a card

Clinton Cards makes me think of Stella Street in which the former president sets up his greetings card business next Mick and Keith's shop

I like pizza express. Suspect that will be controversial but the pizzas are decent enough, it's great for kids, and can always get a discount voucher so it's never that expensive. Also if they go that is basically one shop front in every twenty empty cos there are fucking loads of them

Not surprised. Last time I went it was £40 for two pizzas and two drinks. We had to wait ages and the restaurant was cramped, noisey and poorly managed. Have to say I do like their pizzas though.

Ah mate just google discount code, there's always one and if there isn't and you ask the waiter they whack one through anyway. Probably a big reason why they couldn't make on the margins

A little bit surprised by this as every time I've seen a restaurant it seems to be quite busy. Always popular with families. Also pizza is very cheap to make compared to a lot of restaurant food so decent margin and there is a lot of preserved food used so their wastage must be minimal. I suspect it will be the old story of extracting far too much money from the business in the good times and signing too many long leases in unsuitable locations.

I think their pizza is actually pretty decent but I don't think any pizza is worth the money they charge. Also due to their popularity with families sometimes their restaurants can feel like a primary school canteen. Not the most relaxing environment for a nice meal out if you're not out as a family yourself.

Everyone I know only ever goes there when they have Tesco vouchers to use up. That’s why it’s full of families: they’re using vouchers. I think that’s the problem: over extended in terms of number of premises, they charge too much for people to spend actual cash, the wages aren’t covered by the voucher deals.

I am ambivalent about pizza express to be honest. The local one to me has a huge restaurant on the high street and is always nearly empty.

Has this been bubbling under for a while? Walking past a pizza express at the weekend Mrs B remarked how busy it always is, and I said I reckoned they were about to go bust. Not sure if I'm some sort of soothsayer or if I read it was in trouble somewhere a few months back...
