Birken is the godfather of Wonk. Those weird tracks he laid down in the 90s. Maybe he needs his own genre, BirkWonk.

Saw him play at Don't in Dalston a few year back. Absolutely stunning, best kind of 'live' ?techno set i ever saw. It was the crowd around his little table all goin mental.

perhaps - I'm a member of a (much smaller) music group where the competition is more towards posting the newest and most obscure stuff, and that's been totally disappearing up it's own arse lately. :D I love it all though tbf. Today's biggest lols on the techno nostalgia group is Oliver Bondzio from Hardfloor shitposting like a pro.

what's the new group?

although tbh, if all you're interested in is the tunes, they've scraped all the clips posted so far and made a youtube channel - 12,000 tracks up so far.

yeah that will do nicely, ta. and lol at that other group, one of the admins is Mr. C's good mate so it was bound to happen inevitably.

I posted what I thought was a Joe Lewis / Larry Heard co-production on moody's 80s house thread, then found out that Joe Lewis basically spent his entire career passing off other people's productions as his, and it was probably just a Larry Heard track.

Checking out some of the other stuff he ripped off, and the guy has taste. This mid-90s detroit edged track was lifted from a UK producer called Jaime Read

I've got Read's 97 full length (under his own name) on and it's quality

I don't think they have been actually - probably because this is the 90s techno thread, not the 90s gabber thread...

Oh. Well if we're over thinking the division, then probably... over... something <younger people quip>

I mean these are still tracks to shit out your brains and reingest them to the benefit of your soul.

Sure, and they're good tracks. They just aren't techno. Or if they are, only in the same way Napalm Death are rock & roll.

dunno why this hasn't received more attention, it holds it's own against any more recent productions, quality from 1990

i’d recommend the facebook group ‘real techno’ recently started by jim masters, darren emerson and others - they’ve set up a youtube channel which automatically aggregates clips posted in the group too
