90s house

The 1993 thread has set me off listening to a load of Fabio Paras tracks.

He was DJing in the 80s when Nicky Holloway took him to Ibiza with him in 1988 and he dived into the UK house scene when he came back. He hung out with the Junior Boys Own crowd; here he is (left) with Terry Farley, Glen Gunner and a very young looking Andy Weatherall:

He did some records as Outrage with Terry Farley on JBO:

Love the story of how that came about:

Farley and I were gigging up north somewhere, we were clattered, I know, not very professional. Farley played his last tune about 5 times and when I took over with my first tune he still was trying to play his last tune over mine. It was turning into a total shambles but.....when them records aligned it sounded wicked and we both said to each other that needs to go into a studio and get done proper. And there’s the Outrage thing. Good thing with it was the clubbers, promoters and everybody else thought we were brilliant and re-booked us...how’s ya luck!

He ran Junk Rock records from 1991. Did some excellent remixes; his The Not For Love Nor Money Do I Remember Saying "I See Myself As Being Round For Quite Some Time" Remix of React 2 Rhythm's I Know You Like It is a favourite:

As Soundclash Republic, all clattering percussion and eastern rhythms, he started getting quite a big name; he sold out Ministry of Sound when he played his Birth of Shiva Shanti album live there. Fucking love that album:

And then... he disappeared. For decades no-one knew what had happened to him. Ever more bizarre rumours circulated: he'd turned transvestite and read palms for £1 on Brighton Pier; he'd bought a poppy farm in Afghanistan. Most likely he'd over done it on the recreationals and walked away from it all. He reappeared to DJ at the last Full Circle party in 2019, but never felt the need to explain where he'd been.

Love a bit of FP :)

He was always one of my favourites at Open All Hours (Fridays MoS).

I wondered what happened to him.
