Nah, not quite. Coldwave started out as French & Belgian bands trying to sound like Joy Division before going in a more electronic synthpop direction. Depends how much of a genre fascist you want to be whether you include some industrial & EBM stuff as coldwave, as there's some crossover in the sounds. Probably because they were using the same synths as that's all was available at the time.

Although I was never a fan before, I've been enjoying Bloc Party's latest one, despite the overt religiousity of the themes:

If seems that Kinshasa is the big city for music from Africa at the minute. Similar to the Mbongwana Star album from last year. Konono No.1 Meets Batida:



The whole album is on Spotify and well worth a listen.

Ah no unfortunately not! It was at La Casa Encendida, so finished at 10:30PM and made me think it was a massive waste that he hadn't played somewhere like Siroco. When did he play last year??
