2016 album recommendations - too soon?

The Jordan Rakei album - Cloak - is excellent. The melodies and chord progressions are very mid-70s Stevie Wonder but has a variety of stylistic references.

I also like the Anchorsong record, a few duff tunes but largely enjoyable.

I don't always like compilations, but David Holmes' 'Late Night Tales' does a fantastic job. Every track placed thematically, new themes started, then old ones revisited. Perfect.

Ha, I just got into a row on facebook with someone on a thread about this album. Wasn't you was it? :hmm:

I thought it was you, you bastard!!!

No, it wasn't.

Are you of the opinion that it's good or not very good? I assume not very good.

I haven’t heard it yet, but the tracklist looks good (that I know anyway).

The row was worthless and strange even by my own low standards: a long and bitter back and forth about how many tracks were shared between Holmes’ excellent Essential Mix CD release from 1996, and his Essential Mix radio show from the same year. I somehow ended up posting the tracklists side-by-side to prove I was right (there was two). Even as the row was ongoing I knew how pointless it was. The internet is bad for a soul.

Agreed, it certainly can be! Anyway, don't let pointless arguments detract from the fact that it is a work of art from start to finish. Even the fact that MAH played one of the tracks on BBC6 on her Sunday show hasn't put me off it.

The new album by a.b. original is blowing everyone away. It's definitely a landmark album and it wouldnt be an exaggeration to call it the most important Aussie hip hop album ever. You might need to know a little about Australian politics and indigenous issues to fully appreciate it but it's still worth checking out.

This is an amazing version of dumb things with Paul Kelly- wish it was on the album.

And Briggs has down some great stuff one his own

I forgot to mention this album last year, this is my favourite of the year in retrospect. dubbed out low fi garage punk, guess I could say television personalities and royal trux as influences among many others.
the main person is the guy who previously did Black Time in the 2000s.
