Album Recommendations: 2024 Edition

This is out today. I tried listening to it this morning and couldn't make it past song 3 - found it infuriatingly twee and uninspiring

I am a bad tempered hag atm though, maybe I should try again during half term or something.
Just listened to it and it does improve. Not enough and not consistently though :(. Three or four very good tracks but otherwise, disappointing.

Alligator has just come on afterwards to remind me what she can do.

Just listened to the new Mercury Rev - better than anything they've done for a long time

Sounds very M83.

Not sure I dare hope for a good Mercury Rev album though. They've broken my heart with so much toss since the magnificent All Is Dream.

New Xiu Xiu is out today:

Also, new Algernon Cornelius came out earlier this month:

Also, excited to see that there's a new Chat Pile coming soon, three tracks up now:

Milan.W -Leave Another Day .

The album’s dozen songs illuminate the thoughts of an old head on young shoulders; gilding and binding aspects of dusky country, folk-rock, blues, chamber-like jazz noir, spangled kosmiche and indie-pop, with flushes of synthetic warmth and a strikingly poised voice for the ages, perfectly suspended in-the-mix, floating moody above it all.

Blood Incantation's Absolute Elsewhere is out today. Been looking forward to this and it doesn't disappoint. Straddling the intersection between death metal and kosmiche - it's an absolute trip...

The new Porridge Radio is excellent.

And there are two new Julian Cope albums just out! Not had a chance to listen yet, but one sounds promising (Friar Tuck, a follow up to last years' Robin Hood) although the other - a 70 minute mellotron work out designed to drown out church bells and help his (then) children sleep. I suspect that one will only get played once.

new Blood Incantation album is generating a stir.... a fusion of death metal and prog, taking in jazz dub electronic etc... 2 20 minute songs... definitely massively overblown and ridiculous but also v impressive and awesome. probably will be a quite important to the history of metal. worth a go. Knotted you may be interested

Hmmm
...

Oh yeah I do like it. ;);):)

I forgot to mention before, but last month Britcore legends Gunshot released their first album since the turn of the millennium...

Black Lebanon Volume 1 is split between vintage demos from the 90s, and more recent material. This summer's eulogy to the sadly departed rapper Alkaline is included, but the previous two rebirth tracks (‘Sulphur’ and ‘Burn Cycle’) aren't. The digital album also throws in some bonus tracks - a pair of reworkings/remixes of ‘Ghetto Heartbeat’ (their final single before their decades-long hiatus!), plus a couple more.

Definitely worth your squids.

Oh, and the new Drug Church is out now, so between that, Xiu Xiu, Porridge Radio and Chat Pile I think that's all the big names that I'd been looking forward to:

The Indelicates have a new album out, their usual mix of indie with hints of west end musicals - this one's a concept album about internet conspiracies. Wasn't super impressed on first listen but it's definitely growing on me:

They've also gotten deep into generative AI, making this awesome video for the lead single:
