2016 album recommendations - too soon?

stavros have you seen that Emma Pollock's got a new album out? (You are an Emma Pollock fan, right? Or have I completely confused you with someone else?)

Well fuck my fingernails, you're right! I am a big fan of her's, and the dearly missed Delgados. I shall have to search this one out along with Matmos at the weekend.

Cheers mate.

He's very prolific and I must confess I only own a relatively small section of his back catalogue. Bulldozer and So-Called Life didn't knock me out, but the Hospitality EP is excellent and his Breezeblock mixes are awesome.

Really enjoying this - definitely-UK funky soul breakbeat business and more courtesy of Phil Asher + loads of guests and contributers - just a nice little thing...

out on Barely Breaking Even - looks like no physical release - whole thing can be bought or streamed from what sounds like slightly low quality mp3 from here
Restless Soul Fun Band - Fun! : [ BBE ]

I discovered that Venetian Snares has a new one out as of Friday, and Allmusic has given it a pretty good write-up.
sounds good...i cant stomach anything that gets close to breakcore, but this sounds promising

New Calypso Rose album coming in a month or so, produced by Manu Chao.
Calypso /Soca and standard Chao stylings. It's right up my street; some of you may like it also.

I got a confidential preview, as I'm as special as rutabowa is in the music world :p

we should have our own special prerelease preview section.

Also Matmos have a new LP out on Friday. It's single track is described by them as "an exploded view of the machine, hearing it in normal operation, but also as an object being rubbed and stroked and drummed upon and prodded and sampled and sequenced and processed by the duo”. Pseuds Corner anyone?

you know that's 'cos the whole thing is made from recording a washing machine right?
haven't heard it but looking forward to it and probably less upsetting than the rhinoplasty one

Not Waving album is the business most focussed and diverse thing he's done

I did know that, yes. I genuinely like their music, but part of the attraction of Matmos is their, um, original approach to instrumentation.

I've just discovered Steve Mason (Beta Band, King Biscuit Time) has a new one out. He's always dependable.

ETA: I bought it today and am nearly through my first play of it. Very consistent and well worth investing in if you like either his solo work or the Beta Band.

I don't imagine it'll actually come out in 2016, but Bjork is working on a follow up to Vulnicura with Arca :snoopy dance:

Jesu is Justin Broadrick of Godflesh. I enjoyed the tracks I've heard so far from the collab, although it isn't as heavy as I'd have liked. Dark as fuck though, that song about Arthur Cave is B.L.E.A.K

I was never a huge Delgados fan but I always loved the girl one's voice. I will check this out too.

Well, is it?

I am massively looking forward to Cross Record's Wabi-Sabi, out later this month, on the basis of this track (starts slowly, but bear with it at least till 2.39 or so):

And almost as much to Savages' Adore life, also out soon, on the basis of this:

Post-release update: Wabi-Sabi - superb and a definite earliy contender for my top 5 this year. Adore Life - good, although the track I posted rather strides out ahead of the pack.

The Venetian Snares album is a definite improvement on his previous two LPs, not least because he hasn't done any silly vocals or voice samples.

Sun Kil Moon has a new album out, a collaboration with Jesu (which is apparently something to do with Godflesh, I have no idea really). It's quite nice, better than last year's effort anyway.
Yeah I like this... I thought last years album was mostly great though, after quite a few listens.... just with a few songs that didn't appeal

Essaie Pas - Demain est une autre nuit

I've been enjoying this album the past few weeks - French-Canadian Coldwave/EBM with bloke mumbling and woman singing in French. There's loads of acts doing retro Coldwave stuff these days but this album really stands out.

You know you're getting old when you consider yourself a music fan but have absolutely no idea what 'retro Coldwave' is :)
