American writing a negative book/expose on Ian Stuart/S*rewdriver

Those fuckers supported my band in the south Wales valleys but happily for their health it was before they'd gone all right wing. Not sure who'd want to read about this non entity, apart from a handful of Nazi fuckwits.

Rape, sexual assault and harassment in the entertainment industry

I was never successful enough in the music biz to mingle with many celebs, but there was one famous DJ who I witnessed first hand being sexually inappropriate with a young member of my band and I'm amazed his name hasn't surfaced.

Would you pay for Six Music?

If you look at the long running thread you'll see that BBC6 mainly winds me up and I stopped listening ages ago. I'm glad that it exists though, I'm glad that they play my band occasionally and I'm glad that people enjoy it, but I still wouldn't pay for a radio station that I barely ever listen...

    Cassettes

I dug out my old hi-fi cassette player and played some studio recordings of my band and have to admit that I was blown away by the sound quality of some. I'd got it in my head that it was all going to hiss and no bass but one song in particular - the demo of Life In A Northern Town by Dream...

Rickenbacker guitars galore at this wonderful central London exhibition!

That's an impressive man cave! I love playing along to a Rickenbacker!

My band are playing the Trades Club on the 14th May next year - be great to get back to Hebden!

BBC6 Radio - comment, discussion and moans

Mary Anne Hobbs once wrote this review of my band in Sounds. People often remark how I still 'radiate Ray Ban cool.' Or maybe I'm mishearing them.

The Cranberries are a Top50 band in History

That's needlessly personal and insulting. Grow the fuck up. And my band does very well thank you very much, regardless of your own personal opinion which I care not one jot for.

Brexit and musicians/performers and the touring industry: news, updates and experiences

Even if all your paperwork is in order, there's still a chance customs officials may massively delay you by insisting on checking the contents of your van with the carnet - which means you have to unpack the entire van and wait for them to go through every item on the list. This happened to my...

The Cranberries are a Top50 band in History

But you're fine slagging other people off for not 'appreciating' the Cranberries, and you're OK with insulting me personally, posting up lies about me (not a single post of yours has been 'censored') and making up derogatory comments about my band which you know precisely nothing about (and has...

Brexit - impact on musicians, touring and the music/events industry

My band had European dates cancelled/postponed because of Covid. Some of those rescheduled dates may now not go ahead after Brexit because the costs of visas/carnets/insurance etc may make them financially untenable. I'm struggling to see why this isn't self explanatory.

    A thank you to Brexiteers.

For the first time in the five years I've been with them, my band still has ZERO European gigs and festivals lined up mainly because of Brexit (*yes Covid clearly decimated gigs in the past, but we'd normally have at least 3-4 tours booked by now for the summer and next year). Talk to...

Brexit - impact on musicians, touring and the music/events industry

I've been chatting to friends in different bands recently and not one of them has any European dates booked - and it's the same for my band too. The reason? Fucking shitty Brexit. https://www.nme.com/news/music/uk-artists-managers-limbo-struggle-book-tours-europe-brexit-2908050...

Brexit and musicians/performers and the touring industry: news, updates and experiences

I'm not sure my band would qualify as a 'hobby band,' which is something I've never heard of before, tbh. What are his experiences of selling merch with these bands?

    Bananarama

Fact! They started off singing backing vocals for my band, The Monochrome Set!

Brexit - impact on musicians, touring and the music/events industry

Surely the band's fee is taxed at source when they're paid by the venue? I declare all my band earnings on my tax return anyway. Maybe I'm paying too much. I imagine it's all going to get a lot more complicated now anyway.

The big Brexit thread - news, updates and discussion

For the first time since I joined my band we have zero European dates booked.

    A thank you to Brexiteers.

Err, do you think successful bands are somehow created in a vacuum and emerge, ready formed? Almost all successful indie/rock/alt bands start off unsuccessful and then then develop via the gig circuit. Without that circuit they would be unlikely to achieve any success. I'd say my band are...
