Women's World Cup 2023

Just switch over at half time for 15 minutes. That's what I do anyway or mute the sound of the adverts.

Absolutely. They've not long been able to manage as a full time job. I knew the women's England manager 20 years ago, because she worked in the sandwich shop round the corner from the pub I worked in. Because she had to pay the bills. Shameful really.
Were you following womens football back then?

Actually not such a silly question. It's only in the last few years that the womens' game has had the investment and professional funding. Before that the skill levels unsurprisingly weren't good.

The quality this year has generally been excellent though. Eta: also from the smaller countries.
I'm ancient enough to remember when Ch 4 showed women's club football circa 1990. The standard has rocketed since then. Like you say, one of those more money, more coaching, more women playing shockers.

Struck me as about top end National League/League Two quality in most of the matches I watched with a few better individuals dotted about.

Last night a male Arsenal player was sent off in part for time wasting ( he got two yellows ). It was 30 minutes from the end of the game and they were wining one nil.
I mention this to illustrate what is wrong with the mens game and in part why the womens game is much more enjoyable.

I was getting a takeaway last night and had to wait. The only thing to read was a S*n sport and tv guide for the week. They had a whole page of sport TV, things like how to watch Valencia on Wednesday etc. When the world athletics was on.

They completely ignored the women's world cup final.

Well, I don't know tbh, not a follower - but is there coverage somewhere on here about this?

I really don't get why he felt entitled to do this.
Came here looking for coverage. It's a massive story. And yer man's a massive dickhead, doubling down and martyring up.

Quite a bizarre press conference by the sounds of it. I gather he had his two young daughters in the audience as he claimed the kiss was nothing he wouldn't give to them. And yeh, the applause, including from the manager.

It wasnt just the kiss either. He was photographed grabbing his balls in celebration while standing in the box with the spanish princess and paraded around the pitch doing things like this.

He shouldn't have had chance to refuse to resign. He should be sacked and arrested.

“Pick the right battles. Pick the right fights,” said Fifa president, Gianni Infantino, before the final of the Women’s World Cup. “You have the power to change. You have the power to convince us men what we have to do and what we don’t have to do. You do it. Just do it.” Well, Gianni, this is the fight we are picking, are you convinced? Will you do it?

81 women players have said they'll not play while Rubiales is still in post. The Spanish FA response? To say that they have "an obligation to play" if selected.

187-0 win for Spain's next opponents then. All own goals.

I mean you just gotta lol. So the player literally manhandled is now facing legal action? One of my best mates lives in Madrid and has told me that public opinion is very very much firmly against this fucker and his bosses. But I don't think he can actually be sacked as they elect their heads?

If only this self-centered, entitled moron had stuck to his initial apology this would have blown over by now. But oh no, he had to do an 180, escalate it and not take any responsibility for doing something inappropriate. That's what causes the rage. Why not just admit he got carried away and did something he shouldn't have? Now he's painting himself as a victim? Do fuck off.

I think it's 80 women and one man, Borja Iglesias, a striker for Real Betis.

For some reason I got confused and thought til now that it was the Prime Minister of Spain who had done this.

So, uh, yeah, thanks all for clarifying.
