Women's World Cup 2023

Surely Sarina must be in the frame for the men's job at some point? If she wanted it of course. She's brilliant.
Is this because you see it as a promotion? Asked without snark. I think the game really needs to get away from this kind of tiered thinking. I doubt she'd go for it personally, her career has been in women's football from back before we were all talking about it. I agree she's brilliant :)

And like Wiegman said the other day as it is there's too few opportunities for women managers even in the womens game

No, I didn't mean it like that, but I do think she'd find it intriguing. The current men's boss is quite good anyway but maybe one day they could do a job swap.

But would she be paid 5 million or so..?
Would his salary drop to £400,000? :)

The biggest pisstake was Phil Neville getting the England job as his first management job, ahead of qualified women candidates who actually had experience in the women's game.
Actually tbf he did have a100% win record as caretaker manager (with Scholes) prior to this.
One match - one win at Salford City...:)

Absolutely. They've not long been able to manage as a full time job. I knew the women's England manager 20 years ago, because she worked in the sandwich shop round the corner from the pub I worked in. Because she had to pay the bills. Shameful really.

does anyone have any thoughts on the standard of football? i havent been able to watch much because of the timings of the games

amazing insight, thanks

i'll just google it

It's been very very good IMO, with a couple of exceptions. Not sure how Colombia managed to get as far as they did as they're really not great. I don't watch women's football normally mind you. I assume it's like the men's game though in that club football (at the top level) is actually of a higher quality than the international game. Very entertaining though and some magic goals.

It's the World Cup, so I'm going to guess its not too bad...

Seriously.
Actually not such a silly question. It's only in the last few years that the womens' game has had the investment and professional funding. Before that the skill levels unsurprisingly weren't good.

The quality this year has generally been excellent though. Eta: also from the smaller countries.

Again, why are they doing this absurd exercise. It's probably doing more damage game to the women's game in Oz than it is doing good.

heres a couple of interesting pieces

One of their defenders set the tone at the very start of their game against (I think) Germany by running at one of the forwards and elbowing her solidly in the back with the ball a good 20 yards away (not even a foul given). And of course there was their warm up game that the Irish abandoned after one of their players was hospitalized.

Yeh I remember that game. The German striker was getting hit again and again. And she's a big unit - didn't seem to deter the Colombians though!

Colombia were very tough, bordering on nasty, very fit, and quite unpredictable. They relied on a couple of individuals to make the difference, Caciedo and Santos.
