Will you be swearing allegiance to the king?

My elder daughter joined the brownies just to annoy me. I’d pick her up and ask what they’d done that evening, “oh, just swore oaths to the queen and prayed”, she’d say, mischief in her eyes, while I exploded inside. The little bugger.
All four of my offspring served in the youth paramilitary, it doesn't seem to have made loyal monarchists out of any of them. Their interest in the monarchy covers the whole range from complete indifference to complete indifference.

Ms A320 refused to swear to god when she went up from brownies to guides as she didn’t belive in god. The Tawnie Owl or whatever was also a real god botherer so wouldn’t let her be a proper guide. She did all the stuff and got badges and stuff but always had to stand to the side at special events.

It was ace.

My youngest lad wanted to join the local cub group. It was run by two women and when I asked them if they still did the oath to the queen and god, they told me they couldn't be arsed with all that. They just wanted the kids could have a nice time. I said, you'll do. I felt a bit bad when the lad later went on to join the woodcraft folk :(

My dad’s got the right idea. He’ll be on Harris in the Outer Hebrides. I doubt many there will be loyally pledging allegiance.
Are you sure?! In Orkney they made the kids march down the street with union jacks during the jubilee, I took my son out of school and we went to Sanday. I'd be pretty surprised if there wasn't a bit of that in Lewis tbh. A quick glance on islandbook throws up: "Tha a h-uile duine aig Taigh Dhonnchaidh cho pròiseil gun deach duais Coronation Champion a bhuileachadh air Mary againn fhìn. Tha i làn airidh air gach moladh agus duais airson an obair air leth a tha i a’ dèanamh. " Which basically means "we're a bunch of bootlicking wankers out west as well, Horatio is right"

eta: you said Harris. Why can I not read today.......

I'll miss this although there will be some coverage on the Portuguese news channels. There's a bloke I know over here from Bolton who comes from a Republican family. He rents out a property to tourists and last year when it was Jubilee week had some people staying who asked him was there anywhere locally that sold Union Jack bunting.
