As of tomorrow all UK citizens' passports will lose benefits conferred by EU membership. Broadly the most relevant of these are:
  1. No need for visas for stays within EU of over 90 days
  2. Full working and residential rights within the EU
  3. Subsidised EU education and scholarships
  4. Access to faster customs/immigration queues when abroad (unless the UK cut a deal)
  5. Right to EU member state consular protection
In most cases you only need to prove you are descended from a parent or grandparent from an EU country to claim citizenship and thus an EU passport, though I believe a few countries (e.g. Hungary) also require passing a basic language proficiency test.

I suspect costs in my case will be of the order of £100 if I don't need special assistance with my application, which for me is worth it (for identity reasons as well as the above list).

have been trying to sort one, its taking ages, will get one though once i get through the paperwork
you can never have enough passports

not sure this thread is going to do much than turn into a bunfight/gloat thread tho

Not eligible, would get one if I could. Mind you, if I were eligible I'd have got the second passport years ago just because it's cool.

Nope. Feel no need or desire to uproot myself and try to find a new job in a strange country where I don't speak the language. Especially when I already have a decent job, family and other attachments here.

That's an answer to a different question, though.

I've got the docs for the Irish passport lined up, mostly need to get references and budget the cash for it. Current plan is to do so sometime in Feb/March but it depends on how much fucks I can give to getting references because those are a pain in the arse.

If Scotland goes indie then rejoins the EU as would be extremely likely, I might be able to swing a Scottish passport - would definitely give that a go.
I would definitely be eligible for a Scottish passport in those circumstances, but really not sure if I'd bother.
