Perhaps..in the article it says "The company will be hoping that by taking the Israeli business back "in house" it can restore its reputation in the Middle East and meet its key sales targets once more."... i doubt thats going to make any difference unless they start whipping their staff or something

Yeah surely taking it all in house would mean they have to take full responsibility and can't blame the local franchise?

I suppose it would give them the option of shutting the israel operation down without getting sued by the franchise owner? (If they decided they needed to do that).

I believe that the closest American equivalent to UK-style chips are what they call "steak cut" fries.

Baffling for anyone to get all nationalist about the particular kind of deep-fried potato product they prefer. Especially from those who would otherwise be scandalised at being compared to "Little Englander" types.

Personally I could go for either depending on my mood. In either case, their relative blandness is forgivable on account of them being a side dish, rather than the main event.

I think it will make a difference, but it won't be the one that McDonalds expects. By buying the franchises, they're taking full responsibility for anything that happens from here on. When it's their franchisees who are supporting Israel, they can lay blame at their feet since they aren't asserting direct control. McDonalds will regret buying these back somewhere down the line and probably in the near future.

Beef flavouring is a 'natural' alternative to the msg a lot of chip shops add to their salt. No chip is pure potato, they're all cooked in some sort of oil and mostly seasoned as well.

Chippy chips aren't "pure potato" either. They're often fried in the same oil as many other things. Plus the frying process itself will create new compounds such acrylamide, polymers, and free radicals. Sounds scary I know, but these are perfectly ordinary products of the cooking process.
